Hallelujah! (¡Aleluya!)

As I celebrate Easter this year, I’m reminded of the words of this precious hymn:

I serve a risen Saviour; He's in the world today.

I know that He is living, whatever men may say.

I see His hand of mercy, I hear His voice of cheer,

And just the time I need Him He's always near.

Chorus:

He lives! He lives! Christ Jesus lives today!

He walks with me and talks with me along life's narrow way.

He lives! He lives! Salvation to impart!

You ask me how I know He lives? He lives within my heart.

Jesus rose from the grave! 

He is alive and real today! 

And He lives IN ME!

When In Doubt, Praise Him (Cuando dudes, Alábale)

As I read Psalm 89 this week, I noticed something I've never seen before. 

The author starts out by praising God for His love and faithfulness. 

I will sing of the LORD’s great love forever; with my mouth I will make your faithfulness known through all generations. I will declare that your love stands firm forever, that you established your faithfulness in heaven itself. -Psalm 89:1-2

Then later in the Psalm, the writer questions God - where are you now?

How long, O LORD? Will you hide yourself forever? -v. 46a

O Lord, where is your former great love, which in your faithfulness you swore to David? -v. 49

But the final verse of the Psalm returns once again to praise:

Praise be to the LORD forever! Amen and Amen. -v. 52

This is a wonderful Psalm, though the changes in tone can seem confusing at first. I love how the Psalmist starts out praising God. He focuses on who God is and what He has done. Yet he's also not afraid to ask God questions. In his moment of doubt, the writer can't see any evidence of God's love and faithfulness. But those are the very things he praises God for throughout the Psalm! And he even ends with a word of praise. It's beautiful!

Through this Psalm, the Lord showed me that whenever I'm tempted to doubt some truth about Him - whether it's His faithfulness, wisdom, love, etc. - that is the exact thing I need to praise God for! 

Praising Him specifically, for what I can't see in the moment, will bring Him honor and will strengthen my faith. 

Cuando dudes, Alábale

Esta semana, al leer el Salmo 89 noté algo que nunca había visto antes. El autor comienza alabando a Dios por Su amor y fidelidad.

Las misericordias de Jehová cantaré perpetuamente; de generación en generación haré notoria tu fidelidad con mi boca. Porque dije: Para siempre será edificada misericordia; en los cielos mismos afirmarás tu verdad. –Salmo 89:1-2

Más adelante en el Salmo, el escritor le pregunta a Dios -¿dónde estás ahora?

¿Hasta cuándo, oh Jehová? ¿Te esconderás para siempre? –v. 46ª

Señor, ¿dónde están tus antiguas misericordias, que juraste a David por tu verdad? -v. 49

Pero el versículo final del salmo regresa una vez más a la alabanza:

Bendito sea Jehová para siempre. Amén, y Amén. –v. 52

Este es un salmo maravilloso, aunque los cambios en el tono pueden parecer confusos al principio. Me encanta como el salmista comienza alabando a Dios. Se enfoca en quien es Dios y lo que Él ha hecho. Sin embargo, no teme hacerle preguntas. En su momento de duda, el escritor no puede ver ninguna evidencia del amor y la fidelidad de Dios. Pero ¡son esas mismas cosas por las que lo alaba a lo largo del Salmo! E incluso termina con una palabra de alabanza. ¡Es hermoso!

A través de este salmo, el Señor me mostró que cuando esté tentada a dudar alguna verdad acerca de Él –sea Su fidelidad, sabiduría, amor, etc. -¡esa es la cosa exacta por la que necesito alabar a Dios!

Alabarlo específicamente, por lo que no puedo ver en el momento, le traerá honor a Él y fortalecerá mi fe.

Celebrate! (¡Celebrad!)

"Great is the LORD and most worthy of praise; His greatness no one can fathom. One generation will commend your works to another...They will celebrate your abundant goodness and joyfully sing of your righteousness." -Psalm 145:3,4,7

God has been teaching me more about worship in recent months. 

I've realized that in the past it was often easier for me to do a Bible study or to pray than to spend time worshiping God. While I love God and am always in awe of Him, I often had difficulty engaging my emotions to really enjoy and adore Him.  

Thankfully, the Lord has helped me develop a habit of daily worship. And as I've "practiced" worshiping Him, I've found myself enjoying worship more and more! I think I'm finally learning how to celebrate God! =)

I love the above verses from the Psalms. I imagine that David knew more than most people about how to celebrate the Lord. When we think about who our God is, how can we not sing, dance, shout, and throw a little party? =) The truths we know about our God should keep us continually praising and rejoicing! 

God is always worthy of our worship. Yet I believe worship is also His gift to us! We were made to worship. And when we love, adore, and celebrate our awesome Creator and loving Father, I think we are the ones who are blessed! In worship, we experience wonderful feelings of joy, love, and peace. We feel closer to God. We are lifted above our earthly cares. 

In worship we glimpse some of the glory of heaven and our souls are filled with greater life and happiness than anything on earth can produce!

Now that I'm learning to worship, I honestly can't imagine my life without such a precious gift! I thank God that 1) He is a God worthy of our celebration, and 2) that as we celebrate Him, we'll hear Him singing over us!

"The LORD your God is with you, 

   He is mighty to save. 

He will take great delight in you, 

   He will quiet you with His love, 

   He will rejoice over you with singing." -Zephaniah 3:17

¡Celebrad!

“Grande es Jehová, y digno de suprema alabanza; y su grandeza es inescrutable.

Generación a generación celebrará tus obras, y anunciará tus poderosos hechos.

Proclamarán la memoria de tu inmensa bondad, y cantarán tu justicia.” –Salmo 145:3,4, 7

Dios me ha estado enseñando más acerca de la alabanza en los últimos meses.

Me he dado cuenta que, en el pasado, con frecuencia me era más fácil hacer un estudio bíblico u orar que pasar tiempo alabando a Dios. Aunque amo a Dios y siempre estoy maravillada de Él, a menudo tenía dificultades involucrando mis emociones para disfrutarlo y adorarlo verdaderamente.

Gracias al Señor, Él me ha ayudado a desarrollar el hábito de alabarlo diariamente. Y al estar “practicando” el alabarlo, ¡me he encontrado disfrutando más y más la alabanza! Creo que finalmente ¡estoy aprendiendo cómo celebrar a Dios! =)

Me encantan los versículos de los salmos que mencioné al comienzo. Imagino que David sabía más que muchas otras sobre como celebrar al Señor. Cuando pensamos en quien es nuestro Dios, ¿cómo podemos no cantar, gritar y hacer una pequeña fiesta? =) ¡Las verdades que conocemos acerca de nuestro Dios deberían mantenernos alabando y regocijándonos continuamente!

Dios es siempre digno de nuestra alabanza. Así y todo yo pienso que también es ¡su regalo para nosotros! Fuimos hechos para alabar. Y cuando amamos, adoramos y celebramos a nuestro maravilloso Creador y amoroso Padre, pienso que ¡somos nosotros los bendecidos! En la alabanza experimentamos sentimientos maravillosos de gozo, amor y paz. Nos sentimos más cerca de Dios. Somos levantados por encima de nuestras preocupaciones terrenales.

En la alabanza tenemos un vistazo de parte de la gloria del cielo y nuestras almas se llenan con vida y felicidad ¡más grandes de lo que cualquier cosa en la tierra pueda producir!

Ahora que estoy aprendiendo a alabar, honestamente ¡no puedo imaginar mi vida sin un regalo tan precioso! Doy gracias a Dios que 1) Él es un Dios digno de nuestra celebración y, 2) cuando lo celebremos, ¡lo escucharemos cantando sobre nosotros!

“Jehová está en medio de ti, poderoso, él salvará; se gozará sobre ti con alegría, callará de amor, se regocijará sobre ti con cánticos.” –Sofonías 3:17

Joyful God (Gozoso Dios)

I just started reading a book called "Jesus, Man of Joy" by Sherwood Eliot Wirt. So far I'm really enjoying it. 

One thing he says, that I'd never really considered, is that Joy is an attribute of God. 

I know God tells us in Scripture to be joyful, and we know that joy is a fruit of the Holy Spirit. But I'd never put that together with the fact that God is Joyful! 

When we think about God's other attributes, we begin to see that:

- God has been full of joy for all eternity past. 

- God's joy has no limit.

- God's joy is not just an "emotion" but quality of His very being.

- All joy comes from God...because the origin of joy is in His own heart! 

What do you think? Does this picture of God seem a little strange to you?

I admit, it's bending my brain just a bit. Yet I believe that it's true. And I think that the more I can grasp this reality, the more I will love and appreciate and enjoy - my Joyful God! 

Gozoso Dios

Acabo de empezar a leer un libro llamado “Jesús, Hombre de Gozo” por Sherwood Eliot Wirt. Lo que he leído hasta ahora me ha gustado mucho.

Algo que dice, que yo nunca había considerado en realidad, es que el Gozo es un atributo de Dios.

Sé que Dios nos dice en la Escritura que seamos gozosos, y sabemos que el gozo es un fruto del Espíritu Santo. Pero yo nunca lo asocié con el hecho de que ¡Dios es Gozoso!

Cuando pensamos en los otros atributos de Dios, comenzamos a ver que:

- Dios ha estado lleno de gozo por toda la eternidad pasada.

- El gozo de Dios no tiene límite.

- El gozo de Dios no es simplemente una “emoción” sino una cualidad de Su propio ser.

- Todo gozo viene de Dios. . . porque el origen del gozo ¡está en Su corazón mismo!

¿Qué piensas? ¿Este retrato de Dios te parece un poquito extraño?

Lo admito, está doblando mi cerebro apenas un poco. Sin embargo creo que es cierto. Y pienso que entre más pueda entender esta realidad, más amaré, apreciaré y disfrutaré -¡a mi gozoso Dios!

Filled With Joy (Llena De Gozo)

Recently when I read Psalm 126, I felt like shouting, "That's me!" 

Últimamente cuando leo el Salmo 126, siento deseos de gritar: “¡Esa soy yo!”

"When the LORD brought back the captives to Zion, 
   we were like men who dreamed.
Our mouths were filled with laughter, 
   our tongues with songs of joy. 
Then it was said among the nations, 
   'The LORD has done great things for them.' 
The LORD has done great things for us, 
   and we are filled with joy.

Restore our fortunes, O LORD, 
   like streams in the Negev. 
Those who sow in tears 
   will reap with songs of joy. 
He who goes out weeping, 
   carrying seed to sow, 
will return with songs of joy, 
   carrying sheaves with him."  -Psalm 126

“Cuando JEHOVÁ hiciere volver la cautividad de Sion,

seremos como los que sueñan.

Entonces nuestra boca se llenará de risa,

Y nuestra lengua de alabanza;

After 7+ years of chronic illness, it feels like this "captive" is finally returning to real life! 

Después de más de siete años de enfermedad crónica, siento como que esta “cautiva” ¡finalmente está regresando a la vida real!

I'm driving the car again (about once a week)!

 ¡Otra vez estoy conduciendo el carro (más o menos una vez a la semana)!

I went to a family party and got to hold my newest nephew.

Fui a una fiesta familiar y pude alzar a mi sobrino más reciente.

Hanging out with my beautiful sister.

Pasando el rato con mi preciosa hermana.

Riding bikes with my niece and nephews, so fun! 

Montando en bicicleta con mis sobrinos, ¡tan divertido!

Indeed, the LORD has done (and is doing) great things for me, and I am filled with JOY! =)

Claro que sí, JEHOVÁ ha hecho (y está haciendo) grandes cosas por mí, y estoy ¡llena de GOZO! =)

Generosity (Generosidad)

"A generous man will prosper; he who refreshes others will himself be refreshed."
-Proverbs 11:25

I've been thinking about generosity lately. I can honestly say that I've been a blessed recipient of much generosity for my whole life, and especially during the last several years. 

Some examples of the generous people who've blessed me during my health trial:

- many different friends who let me stay in their house/apt. for days, weeks or even months at a time

- a chiropractor who treated me for free

- a massage therapist who treated me and trained my mom in how to do the massage, all for free

- numerous people who sent me financial gifts

- a friend who gave me a computer and digital camera

- my church family who continually sent me cards, gifts & emails and kept praying for me

- other dr's and health advocates who helped me for free or gave me reduced rates on products and services

- a friend who gave their frequent flier miles so I could see another dr

- friends & family who sacrificed their time to help my mom and I make several cross-country road trips

- many friends & family who sent me books, movies or music to encourage me

- and of course, my mom who has taken care of me and given 110% all these years!

When I think back over all the ways people have expressed generosity to me, I'm astounded! I certainly don't deserve it. But I understand now that it has all come from the generous, giving heart of my Heavenly Father! He is the author of generosity. in each act of generous kindness, God was displaying His life and character. I hope and trust that all those people have received much refreshment as a result of their generosity.

I think generosity is an area in my life that needs expanding. I have received much; I want to learn how to give much. When you have little, it's tempting to let that be an excuse not to be generous. But I have the life of Christ in me - the most generous person who exists! 

Lord, please express your generous heart through my life more and more. Amen.

Generosidad

“El alma generosa será prosperada; y el que saciare, él también será saciado.”
–Proverbios 11:25

Últimamente he estado pensando sobre la generosidad. Puedo decir honestamente que he sido una receptora bendecida con mucha generosidad durante toda mi vida y especialmente durante estos últimos años.

Algunos ejemplos de la gente generosa que me ha bendecido durante mi prueba de salud:

- muchos amigos diferentes que me han permitido quedarme en su casa/apartamento por días, semanas y aun meses

- un quiropráctico que me trató gratis

- una terapeuta de masajes que me trató y enseñó a mi mamá cómo hacer el masaje, todo gratis

- numerosas personas que me enviaron ofrendas económicas

- un amigo que me regaló un computador y una cámara digital

- mi familia de la iglesia que continuamente me envió tarjetas, regalos y mensajes de correo electrónico y estuvieron orando por mí, todo el tiempo

- otros doctores y abogados quienes me ayudaron gratis o me dieron tarifas reducidas en productos y servicios

- un amigo quien me regaló sus millas de viajero frecuente para que pudiera ver otro doctor

- amigos y familia que sacrificaron su tiempo para ayudar a mi mamá y a mí para que hiciéramos muchos viajes a través del país

- muchos amigos y familia que me mandaron libros, películas o música para darme ánimo

- y, por supuesto, mi mamá que me ha cuidado y ha entregado de sí 110% ¡todos estos años!

Cuando recuerdo todas las formas en que la gente ha expresado generosidad hacia mí, ¡me asombro! De seguro no la merezco. Pero ahora entiendo que toda ha venido del corazón generoso, dador de mi ¡Padre Celestial! Él es el autor de la generosidad. En cada acto generoso de amabilidad, Dios estaba mostrando Su vida y carácter. Espero y confío que todas esas personas hayan recibido mucho refrigerio como resultado de su generosidad.

Pienso que la generosidad es un área que necesita expandirse en mi vida. He recibida mucha; quiero aprender cómo dar mucha. Cuando tienes poco, es tentador dejar que eso sea una excusa para no ser generoso. Pero tengo la vida de Cristo en mí - ¡la persona más generosa que existe!

Señor, por favor, expresa tu corazón generoso a través de mi vida más y más- Amén
