Fearless New Year (Intrépido Año Nuevo)

Last month I read an amazing book called "Undaunted: Daring to do what God calls you to do" by Christine Caine.

Using dramatic stories from her own life, Christine challenges readers to discover who God says we are and to step forward boldly to light the darkness around us.

I was inspired by Christine's words and her personal testimonies of God's power and faithfulness. And I believe her message is the theme God wants me to focus on for this coming year. 

I want 2013 to be a year of undaunted, fearless living! 

No one knows what's going to happen this year, though there are many negative predictions. But as Christ followers, we have this assurance:

Regardless of economies, governments, suffering or any other problem - we always have everything we need in order to do what God has called us to do.

And God is able to make all grace abound to you, so that in all things at all times, having all that you need, you will abound in every good work. -2 Cor. 9:8

Fears may arise, uncertainties and difficulties may come...but let us never forget the power of God's grace! 

Whatever happens this year, I pray that God will work in me an undaunted determination to follow wherever He leads. 

I want to live fearlessly, and I want to celebrate joyfully as He uses me, weak and frail though I am, to accomplish impossible things for His glory!

Will you join me?

I sought the LORD, and He answered me; He delivered me from all my fears. Those who look to Him are radiant; their faces are never covered with shame. -Psalm 34:4-5

Intrépido Año Nuevo

El mes pasado leí un libro maravilloso llamado “Intrépido: Atreviéndose a hacer lo que Dios te llama a hacer" por Christine Caine.

Usando dramáticas historias de su propia vida, Christine desafía a los lectores a descubrir quien dice Dios que somos y dar un paso al frente con valentía para iluminar la oscuridad que nos rodea.

Las palabras y testimonios personales del poder y la fidelidad de Dios que presenta Christine me inspiraron. Y creo que su mensaje es el tema en el que Dios quiere que me enfoque en el año que viene.

¡Quiero que el 2013 sea un año de un vivir intrépido, audazmente!

Nadie sabe qué va a pasar este año, aunque hay muchas predicciones negativas. Pero como seguidores de Cristo, tenemos esta garantía:

A pesar de problemas de economía, gobiernos, sufrimiento o cualquier otro – siempre tenemos todo lo que necesitamos para hacer lo que Dios nos ha llamado a hacer.

Y poderoso es Dios para hacer que abunde en vosotros toda gracia,  a fin de que,  teniendo siempre en todas las cosas todo lo suficiente,  abundéis para toda buena obra. -2 Co. 9:8

Pueden surgir temores, venir incertidumbres y dificultades… pero ¡nunca olvidemos el poder de la gracia de Dios!

Pase lo que pase este año, oro que Dios obre en mí una intrépida determinación para seguirle donde sea que Él guíe.

Quiero vivir sin temor y quiero celebrar gozosamente el que me use, débil y frágil como soy, para alcanzar cosas imposibles ¡para Su gloria!

¿Te unirás a mí?

Busqué a Jehová,  y él me oyó, Y me libró de todos mis temores. Los que miraron a él fueron alumbrados, Y sus rostros no fueron avergonzados. –Sal. 34:4-5

Merry Christmas! (¡Feliz Navidad!)

And there were shepherds living out in the fields nearby, keeping watch over their flocks at night. An angel of the Lord appeared to them, and the glory of the Lord shone around them, and they were terrified. 

But the angel said to them, “Do not be afraid. I bring you good news of great joy that will be for all the people. Today in the town of David a Savior has been born to you; He is Christ the Lord. This will be a sign to you: You will find a baby wrapped in cloths and lying in a manger.”

Suddenly a great company of the heavenly host appeared with the angel, praising God and saying, 

    “Glory to God in the highest,
 and on earth peace to men on whom His favor rests.”

-Luke 2:8-14

Hallelujah!

En esa misma región había unos pastores que pasaban la noche en el campo, turnándose para cuidar sus rebaños. Sucedió que un ángel del Señor se les apareció. La gloria del Señor los envolvió en su luz, y se llenaron de temor. 

Pero el ángel les dijo: «No tengan miedo. Miren que les traigo buenas noticias que serán motivo de mucha alegría para todo el pueblo. Hoy les ha nacido en la ciudad de David un Salvador, que es Cristo el Señor. Esto les servirá de señal: Encontrarán a un niño envuelto en pañales y acostado en un pesebre.»

De repente apareció una multitud de ángeles del cielo, que alababan a Dios y decían:

  «Gloria a Dios en las alturas,  y en la tierra paz a los que gozan de su buena voluntad.»

Delayed Savior (Salvador Demorado)

Christmas is such a wonderful holiday! Every year God gives me some new thought to ponder about His miraculous gift of Jesus. 

This year I've been thinking about how long the Israelites had waited for the promised Savior to come. It had been thousands of years since God promised Abraham that all nations would be blessed through him, since Moses foretold of a deliverer, since David prophesied that the Messiah would rule. It had been hundreds of years since God had even spoken through any prophets.

And then, one quiet, ordinary night the Savior came - not as a majestic ruler, but as a baby. The skies lit up with angels singing! A small group of people rejoiced and praised God for the long-awaited arrival of the Messiah! 

And then...everyone waited once again. 

A baby could not rule. A baby could not heal or save. It would be more than 30 years before Jesus finally lived out and completed His purpose in coming to earth. Yes, the Messiah had arrived, but He was not an immediate Savior. He was a delayed Savior. 

Can you imagine what that was like? You've waited your whole life for the Messiah. You've heard stories of how your people have waited for thousands of years. And now you KNOW He's here...but He's a helpless baby. So now you must wait a while longer. 

I know a little about waiting. The last 8 years of my life I've been waiting for healing. And while God IS working out His healing process in my body, I'm still waiting to reach that elusive goal of being "well" once again. So in a small way I can relate to Mary, Joseph and the others. 

Obviously, for those of us alive today, we don't have to wait for God's gift of salvation from sin. Jesus accomplished it 2000 years ago when He died on the cross. The moment we believe in Jesus, we receive His gift of salvation and eternal life.

But perhaps there are specific circumstances that we're waiting for God to "save" us from. Maybe we can even see our deliverance coming, but it's not here yet. And so we must wait a little longer....

We know that God had a purpose in sending Jesus as a baby. Because He grew up and experienced every detail of this life, He can sympathize with our weaknesses and struggles. He knows what it's like to be us. 

There was a reason God sent a delayed Savior (actually I'm sure there are numerous reasons, but at least this one we can see clearly). 

And I know that in our specific situations, whether we can see them or not, there are reasons why God is delaying, why He is allowing us to keep waiting for His deliverance. 

Perhaps this Christmas will be a reminder that God's timing is always perfect. And that all of His delays are divinely ordained for a good purpose. 

And best of all, may this Christmas remind us of the sweetest gift ever - God's presence WITH US through every moment and every season of waiting. 

"And so after waiting patiently, Abraham [Joanna] [...insert your name] received what was promised." -Hebrews 6:15

May you experience the joy of Jesus' presence with you today and every day. Merry Christmas!

Salvador Demorado

¡La Navidad es un festivo tan maravilloso! Cada año Dios me da algún pensamiento nuevo para meditar acerca de Su milagroso regalo de Jesús.

Este año he estado pensando sobre el tiempo que los israelitas esperaron para que llegara el Salvador prometido. Habían pasado miles de años desde que Dios le prometió a Abraham que todas las naciones serían bendecidas a través de él, desde que Moisés anunció un libertador, desde que David profetizó que el Mesías gobernaría. Hacía cientos de años que Dios ni siquiera había hablado a través de ningún profeta.

Y entonces, una noche silenciosa y común y corriente, vino – no como gobernador majestuoso, sino como un bebé. ¡Los cielos se iluminaron con ángeles cantando! ¡Un pequeño grupo de personas se regocijaron y alabaron a Dios por la tan esperada llegada del Mesías!

Y luego … todos esperaron una vez más.

Un bebé no podía gobernar. No podía sanar o salvar. Pasarían más de treinta años antes de que Jesús finalmente viviera y completara Su propósito al venir a la tierra. Sí, el Mesías había llegado, pero no fue un Salvador inmediato. Fue un Salvador demorado.

¿Puedes imaginarte cómo fue eso? Has esperado toda tu vida por el Mesías. Has escuchado historias de cómo tu pueblo ha esperado por miles de años. Y ahora sabes que está aquí… Pero es un indefenso bebé. Así que debes esperar un poco más.

Sé un poco sobre esperar. Los últimos ocho años de mi vida he estado esperando por sanación. Y mientras Dios ESTÁ obrando Su proceso sanador en mi cuerpo, todavía estoy esperando alcanzar esa esquiva meta de estar “bien” una vez más. De modo que en una pequeña manera puedo entender a María, José y los otros.

Obviamente, quienes estamos vivos hoy, no tenemos que esperar por el regalo de Dios para salvación de pecado. Jesús lo logró hace dos mil años cuando murió en la cruz. En el momento que creemos en Jesús, recibimos Su regalo de salvación y vida eterna.

Pero quizá hay circunstancias específicas de las que estamos esperando que Dios nos “salve”. Quizá podemos incluso ver que viene nuestra liberación, pero todavía no está aquí. Y entonces tenemos que esperar un poquito más….

Sabemos que Dios tuvo un propósito al enviar a Jesús como bebé. Porque creció y experimentó cada detalle de esta vida, Él puede simpatizar con nuestras debilidades y luchas. Él sabe cómo es ser nosotros.

Hubo una razón por la que Dios envió un Salvador demorado (en realidad estoy segura que hay numerosas razones, pero al menos ésta podemos verla claramente).

Y yo sé que en nuestras situaciones específicas, sea que podamos verlas o sea que no, hay razones por las que Dios está demorando, por las que nos está permitiendo seguir esperando por Su liberación.

Quizá esta navidad sea un recordatorio de que el tiempo de Dios es siempre perfecto. Y que todas Sus demoras son divinamente ordenadas para un buen propósito.

Y lo mejor de todo, que esta navidad nos recuerde del más dulce regalo jamás recibido – La presencia de Dios CON NOSOTROS a través de cada momento y cada temporada de espera.

“Y habiendo esperado con paciencia, alcanzó la promesa.” He. 6:15

Que experimentes el gozo de la presencia de Jesús contigo hoy y todos los días. ¡Feliz Navidad!

Year of Miracles (Año de Milagros)

I've been thinking about what an amazing year this has been! 

In January I wrote a post about asking God to make this a year of miracles. And He has!!!

My mom and I kept a record of miracles this year, some really huge and others seemingly small, yet still incredible. We've had so much joy in praising God for each one!

Some of the miracles for my mom included:

*She didn't even know she had lost her driver's license until someone contacted her that it had been found. Praise God for His miraculous protection from identity theft and other possible problems!

*After a long drive to the airport and back my mom found out that her tire was cracked. It could have easily shredded on the highway, but praise God it didn't!

*God provided an unexpected financial gift for my mom to get a new computer.

Praise the Lord!

We've also seen God do miracles for people we've been praying for:

*We've watched God bring miraculous healing and transformation for a close friend who's had health struggles for decades!

*We rejoiced over the miraculous birth and healthy growth of my little nephew!

*We praised God for miraculously making it possible for my niece and nephew to attend a Christian school this year.

Hallelujah!

Health-wise God has given me miraculous progress this year! I've been able to do so many things that I haven't done in years, including:

*ride a bike,

*do my own laundry!

*drive the car,

*go to church! 

*stay in a hotel!

*celebrate Thanksgiving with my family,

and so much more!

After so many years of illness, I truly am living out God's miracle of healing every day. When I'm washing the dishes or folding laundy, I keep saying, "Thank you God!" To me all these "normal" things will always be miraculous, because I remember how my life used to be.

As if all these wonderful things weren't enough, God has also done tremendous miracles in my heart! I can't put them into words. I can only say that the miracles God has done in me this year were things I didn't even know to ask for, but I thank God for them every day! 

Praise our awesome God!

"O LORD God Almighty, who is like you? You are mighty, O LORD, and your faithfulness surrounds you." -Psalm 89:8

As Christmas approaches, I pray we'll celebrate with GREAT joy, the best miracle of all - that God would become a man and die for our sins, so that we could know Him and enjoy Him both now and for eternity!

Año de Milagros

He estado pensando en lo ¡maravilloso que ha sido este año!

En enero escribí un mensaje acerca de pedirle a Dios que hiciera de éste un año de milagros. ¡¡Y Él lo hizo!!

Mi mamá y yo hicimos un registro de los milagros de este año, algunos realmente grandes y otros aparentemente pequeños, pero de todos modos increíbles. ¡Hemos tenido mucho gozo alabando a Dios por cada uno!

Algunos de los milagros para mi mamá incluyeron:

* Ni siquiera supo que se le había perdido la licencia de conducción hasta que alguien que la había encontrado la contactó. Alabamos a Dios por su milagrosa protección de un robo de identidad ¡y otros posibles problemas!

* Después de un largo viaje al aeropuerto y de regreso, mi mamá se dio cuenta que la llanta de su carro estaba rota. Fácilmente podría haberse destrozado en la autopista, ¡pero gracias a Dios no sucedió!

* Dios le proveyó una ofrenda inesperada para que comprara un computador nuevo.

¡Gracias a Dios!

También hemos visto a Dios hacer milagros para personas por las que hemos estado orando:

* Hemos visto a Dios traer sanación milagrosa y transformación para un amigo cercano ¡que ha tenido luchas de salud por décadas!

* ¡Nos regocijamos por el milagroso nacimiento y crecimiento saludable de mi sobrinito!

* Damos gracias a Dios por hacer milagrosamente posible que mi sobrina y sobrino asistieran a un colegio cristiano este año.

¡Aleluya!

En cuanto a la salud Dios me ha dado un progreso ¡milagroso este año! He podido hacer muchas cosas que no había hecho en años, incluyendo:

* montar en bicicleta,

* ¡lavar mi propia ropa!

* conducir el carro,

* ¡Ir a la iglesia!

* ¡hospedarme en un hotel!

*celebrar Acción de Gracias con mi familia,

¡y mucho más!

Después de tantos años de enfermedad, verdaderamente estoy viviendo el milagro de sanación de Dios todos los días. Cuando estoy lavando la loza o doblando ropa, me lo paso diciendo “¡Gracias Dios!” Para mí todas estas cosas “normales” siempre serán milagrosas, porque recuerdo como acostumbraba a ser mi vida.

Como si todas estas cosas maravillosas no fueran suficientes, ¡Dios también ha hecho tremendos milagros en mi corazón! No puedo expresarlo con palabras. Solamente puedo decir que los milagros que Dios ha hecho en mí este año fueron cosas que ni siquiera sabía pedir, pero le doy gracias a Dios por ellas ¡todos los días!

¡Alabemos a nuestro increíble Dios!

“Oh Jehová, Dios de los ejércitos, ¿quién como tú? Poderoso eres, Jehová, y tu fidelidad te rodea.” -Salmo 89:8

Al acercarse la navidad, oro porque celebremos con GRAN gozo, el mejor milagro de todos – Que Dios se convirtió en hombre y murió por nuestros pecados, para que pudiéramos gozarnos con Él ¡ahora y por la eternidad!

The Gift of Words (El Don De Las Palabras)

I'm so excited that our second children's devotional is now published! 

He's My GOD! Knowing God Through His Names: A Children's Devotional Book 2

I can't help but be amazed though, that God has chosen me to write books for children. It wasn't something I ever expected.

A couple of years ago I was still quite sick and had very limited resources. My niece's birthday was coming up. Since I couldn't go out shopping for a gift, I prayed about what I could make for her instead. Then the Lord gave me an idea for a little book about the names of God.

As I lay in bed day after day, I thought, prayed and worked out the book's details in my mind. Then I finally typed it up, added some clip art, and printed it off for my niece. I was so happy that I could give her a meaningful gift of words!

Not long after that my mom encouraged me to publish the book. She also suggested we use photos of kids for the illustrations. My sister is an excellent photographer, and she agreed to partner with me. Before I knew it, our first children's book was published! 

Now the second one is finished, and I stand in awe of my awesome God! 

God used a time of weakness in my life to produce something valuable for others. 

He gave me a precious gift in my suffering - a love for words. 

And now He's using that gift to keep on giving to others His encouragement and truth. 

What a wonderful God!

El Don De Las Palabras

¡Estoy tan emocionada porque nuestro segundo devocional para niños ya ha sido publicado!

¡Él es Mi DIOS! Conociendo a Dios a Través de Sus Nombres: Libro De Devocionales Para Niños 2.

Sin embargo, no puedo evitar sentirme maravillada porque Dios me ha escogido a mí para escribir libros para niños. Eso es algo que nunca habría esperado.

Hace un par de años todavía estaba bastante enferma y tenía recursos muy limitados. Se aproximaba el cumpleaños de mi sobrina. Como no podía salir a comprarle un regalo, oré por algo que pudiera hacer para ella. Entonces, el Señor me dio la idea de un librito sobre los nombres de Dios.

Acostada en la cama día tras día, pensaba, oraba y elaboraba los detalles del libro en mi mente. Finalmente lo digité, agregué algunas imágenes prediseñadas y lo imprimí para mi sobrina. ¡Estaba tan feliz porque podía darle un regalo significativo de palabras!

Poco después mi mamá me animó a publicar el libro. También sugirió que usáramos fotos de niños para las ilustraciones. Mi hermana es una excelente fotógrafa, y aceptó asociarse conmigo. Antes que pudiera darme cuenta ¡se publicó nuestro primer libro para niños!

Ahora el segundo está terminado ¡y yo estoy admirada de mi maravilloso Dios!

Dios usó un tiempo de debilidad en mi vida para producir algo valioso para otros.

Me regaló un don precioso en mi sufrimiento – amor por las palabras.

Y ahora está usando ese don para continuar dando a otros su ánimo y verdad.

¡Qué maravilloso Dios!

Meditating on Thankfulness (Meditando sobre la Gratitud)

I've been thinking about Psalm 118:1 lately:

Give thanks to the LORD, for He is good;
    His love endures forever. 

Such a simple verse, yet so profound when we stop to consider it:

Give - as in a gift, an offering, something willingly brought, not coerced or forced. 

thanks - a simple expression of gratitude, appreciation

to the LORD - the LORD Almighty is the only one worthy of thanks, for from Him 

                   and through Him and to Him are all things (Rom. 11:36). We can 

                   express thanks to others also, but ultimately God is the recipient of 

                   all thanks because He alone is the source of all things.

for He is good - while we can be thankful for things and pleasant days, the only 

                   lasting reason to give thanks is because God is good. If He were not 

                   good, we would not have good gifts. Neither would we have reason 

                   to rejoice in trials. But because God is good, we can always thank Him, 

                   regardless of circumstances. 

                   And notice the verse says "is good" - not 'He was good,' or 'He will be 

                   good.' God IS good, at all times, even when we don't "feel" good.  

His love - His perfect, divine love, the love that is beyond human comprehension! 

             The love that sent His Son to die on the cross. The love that fills heaven 

             and earth. The love that cherishes and treasures me!

endures - His love will continue through every up and down. It is not dependent on 

             how we act or what we say. It never ceases, not even for a moment! It 

             goes on and on and on.... God's love will NOT fail! 

forever - His love is being expressed to you and I right now. And it will continue to 

             flow over us in Christ tomorrow and the next day, and the next, forever 

             without end! 

How amazing!

And so, I willingly bring an offering of gratitude to my God, regardless of my circumstances, because He is GOOD! And I find comfort in the reality of His perfect love that He will never cease to pour out abundantly on me! 

Amen.

Meditando sobre la Gratitud

Últimamente he estado pensando sobre el Salmo 118:1,

Dad gracias al SEÑOR, porque él es bueno; Su amor dura para siempre.

Un versículo tan sencillo pero tan profundo, cuando nos detenemos a considerarlo –

Dad – como un regalo, una ofrenda, algo entregado voluntariamente, no obligado 

        o forzado.

Gracias – una expresión sencilla de gratitud, aprecio.

Al SEÑOR – El Dios Todopoderoso es el único digno de agradecimiento, porque de él, 

               y por él, y para él, son todas las cosas (Ro. 11:36). También podemos 

               expresar agradecimiento a otros, pero al final Dios es el receptor de todo

               agradecimiento porque Él solo es la fuente de todas las cosas.

Porque él es bueno – Mientras podemos ser agradecidos por cosas y días agradables, 

             la única razón duradera para dar gracias es porque Dios es bueno. Si Él no 

             fuera bueno, no tendríamos buenos regalos. Tampoco tendríamos razón para 

             gozarnos en pruebas. Pero porque Dios es bueno, siempre podemos 

             agradecerle, sin importar las circunstancias.

             Y nota que el versículo dice “es bueno” – no ‘fue bueno,’ o ‘será bueno.’ 

             Dios ES bueno, todo el tiempo, aun cuando no lo “sentimos” bueno.

Su amor – Su amor perfecto, divino, el amor que ¡está más allá de la comprensión 

           humana! El amor que envió a Su hijo a morir en la cruz. El amor que llena 

           el cielo y la tierra. ¡El amor que me cuida y me atesora!

Dura – Su amor continuará a través de cada subida y bajada. No depende de cómo 

          actuamos o lo que decimos. Nunca cesa, ¡ni por un momento! Sigue, sigue y 

          sigue …¡El amor de Dios no fallará!

Para siempre – Su amor está siendo expresado a ti y a mí ahora mismo. Y continuará 

         fluyendo sobre nosotros en Cristo mañana y pasado mañana y al día siguiente, 

         ¡para siempre, sin final!

¡Qué asombroso!

Y entonces, voluntariamente traigo mi ofrenda de gratitud a mi Dios, sin tener en cuenta mis circunstancias, porque ¡Él es BUENO! Y encuentro consuelo en la realidad de Su perfecto amor que ¡Él nunca deja de verter abundantemente sobre mí!
