It's Not A Disney Cruise (No es un Crucero Disney)

Lately it seems like almost everyone I know is going through difficult situations or deep suffering. I can only think of a handful of people who aren't experiencing any painful trials right now. I wish it was the other way around. I wish hardships in life were the exception not the common experience.

As I was wrestling with this and wishing it were different, the Lord reminded me of an important truth.

Life on earth is a battle.

The war began before any fish swam in the seas or any flowers bloomed in the field. It started in heaven, when Satan rebelled against God and rejected everything good. Thus began a cosmic conflict between good and evil.

But the war doesn't just rage in the heavenly realms. The earth is now a battleground.

That's why life is hard.
That's why bad things happen to good people.
That's why evil exists in our world.

Because we live in the midst of a war.

For me, I had to accept this truth. I had to let go of the mentality that life is supposed to be a Disney cruise, with fun, entertainment and pleasure all around. That's not reality.

I thank God that He does gives us moments and even seasons of fun, pleasure, enjoyment, etc. We need those moments, and our heavenly Father knows that. He loves to give us good gifts! But Jesus also told us many times that life would be hard.

If the world hates you, keep in mind that it hated me first. -John 15:18
In this world you will have trouble. -John 16:33
My prayer is not that you take them out of the world but that you protect them from the evil one. -John 17:15

If we're going to live successfully (and maintain sanity in an increasingly insane world), I think we need to keep sight of the bigger picture. If we know we are in a war, then we can learn how to stand, how to fight, how to live. (Ephesians 6:10-20)

I recently saw the movie War Room, and it was perfect timing. It reminded me of several things:

- We need to recognize that our true enemy is Satan, not people.

- We've been given all we need for this life and its battles - in God's Word, community, praise, prayer, love, grace, etc.

- We fight our battles in prayer, believing God to do things that only He can do.

- More is at stake than just our comfort or happiness. We never know what eternal consequences may rest on our seemingly "small" battles.

- Our goals in life shouldn't be about less hardship and more enjoyment, but about letting God so fill our lives that through us He can display His power, overcoming evil with good. 

The great news is that we already know how this war ends. One day Jesus will destroy all evil, and then life really will be perfect!

Until then, we have a choice. We can keep looking for the elusive Disney cruise life. Or we can accept the reality of the war we are in and courageously engage in it.

One point in the movie War Room was that since we are in a war, we need a strategy. Battles aren't won by accident. That strategy may look different for each of us. Perhaps it means finding a prayer partner to help you fight your battles. Or keeping a gratitude journal to ward off discouragement. Or spending the first 5 minutes of the day in worship. There are many strategies we can use.

Again, I wish I could make life easier for others and for myself. But then we'd miss all kinds of opportunities for God to reveal Himself - as Provider, Comforter, Healer, Strength, Defender, Deliverer, Refuge, Savior....

So since we're an important part of this war, let's cheer each other on! Let's use what we've been given to fight well. Let's rely on God's grace to carry us through. And let's keep the end victory always in sight!

The weapons we fight with are not the weapons of the world. On the contrary, they have divine power to demolish strongholds. -2 Corinthians 10:4

Fight the good fight of the faith. -1 Timothy 6:12a

But thanks be to God, who always leads us in triumphal procession in Christ and through us spreads everywhere the fragrance of the knowledge of Him. -2 Corinthians 2:14


No es un Crucero Disney

Últimamente parece como que todos los que conozco están atravesando situaciones difíciles o sufrimiento profundo. Solamente puedo pensar en un puñado de personas que no están experimentando pruebas dolorosas ahora mismo. Desearía que fuera al contrario. Desearía que las penalidades fueran la excepción y no la experiencia común.

Mientras luchaba con esto y deseaba que fuera diferente, el Señor me hizo recordar una verdad importante.

La vida en la tierra es una batalla.

La guerra comenzó antes que algún pez nadara en los mares o algunas flores florecieran en el campo. Comenzó en el cielo, cuando Satanás se rebeló contra Dios y rechazó todo lo bueno. En consecuencia, comenzó un conflicto cósmico entre lo bueno y lo malo.

Pero la guerra no ruge solamente en las esferas celestiales. La tierra es ahora un campo de batalla.

Por eso es que la vida es difícil.
Por eso es que le pasan cosas malas a la gente buena.
Por eso es que existe la maldad en nuestro mundo.

Porque vivimos en medio de una guerra.

En cuanto a mí, tuve que aceptar esta verdad. Tuve que dejar la mentalidad de que se supone que la vida sea un crucero Disney, con alegría, entretenimiento y place por todas partes. Esa no es la realidad.

Agradezco a Dios que nos da momentos y aun temporadas de alegría, placer, diversión, etc. Necesitamos esos momentos y nuestro Padre celestial lo sabe. ¡A Él le encanta darnos buenos regalos! Pero Jesús también nos contó muchas veces que la vida sería difícil.

"Si el mundo los aborrece, tengan presente que antes que a ustedes, me aborreció a mí.” – Jn. 15:18

“En este mundo afrontarán aflicciones…” –Jn. 16:33

“No te pido que los quites del mundo, sino que los protejas del maligno.” – Jn. 17:15

Si vamos a vivir con éxito (y mantener la cordura en un mundo cada vez más demente), creo que necesitamos mantener a la vista el cuadro más grande. Si sabemos que estamos en una guerra, entonces podemos saber como soportar, como luchar, como vivir. (Ef. 6:10-20)

Hace poco vi la película “Sala de Guerra” y fue en el momento perfecto. Me recordó varias cosas:

- Necesitamos reconocer que nuestro verdadero enemigo es Satanás, no las personas.

- Se nos ha dado todo lo que necesitamos para esta vida y sus batallas – en la Palabra de Dios, la comunidad, la alabanza, la oración, el amor, la gracia, etc.

- Luchamos nuestras batallas en oración, creyendo que Dios hará cosas que solamente Él puede hacer.

- Hay más en juego que sencillamente nuestra comodidad o felicidad. Nunca sabemos qué consecuencias eternas pueden reposar en nuestras aparentemente “pequeñas” batallas.

- Nuestros objetivos en la vida no deberían ser menos dificultades y más disfrute, sino dejar que Dios llene tanto nuestras vidas que Él pueda mostrar Su poder a través de nosotros, venciendo el mal con el bien.

La gran noticia es que nosotros ya sabemos como termina esta guerra. Un día Jesús destruirá todo el mal y entonces ¡la vida será realmente perfecta!

Hasta entonces, tenemos una alternativa. Podemos seguir buscando la esquiva vida de crucero Disney. O podemos aceptar la realidad de la guerra en la que estamos e involucrarnos valerosamente en ella.

Un punto en la película Sala de Guerra es que, puesto que estamos en una guerra, necesitamos una estrategia. Las batallas no se ganan por accidente. Esa estrategia puede ser diferente para cada uno de nosotros. Quizá significa encontrar un compañero de oración que te ayude a pelear tus batallas. O mantener un diario de gratitud para protegerte del desánimo. O pasar los primeros cinco minutos del día en alabanza. Hay muchas estrategias que podemos usar.

De nuevo, Desearía poder hacer la vida más fácil para otros y para mí misma. Pero entonces perderíamos toda clase de oportunidades para que Dios se revele a Sí mismo – como Proveedor, Consolador, Sanador, Fortaleza, Defensor, Libertador, Refugio, Salvador…

Entonces, puesto que somos una parte importante de esta guerra, ¡Animémonos unos a otros! Usemos lo que se nos ha entregado para luchar bien. Descansemos en la gracia de Dios para que nos lleve. ¡Y mantengamos siempre a la vista la victoria final!

"Las armas con las que luchamos no son del mundo. Al contrario, tienen el poder divino para derribar fortalezas." -2 Corintios 10:4

"Pelear la buena batalla de la fe." -1 Timoteo 6:12a

My Strength (Mi Fuerza)

I've lived much of my life with physical weakness. And while I continually hope and pray for a strong, healthy body, I'm also learning to embrace the truth that in Jesus, I am strong. He is my Strength.


It is God who arms me with strength and makes my way perfect. -2 Samuel 22:33

The LORD is my strength and my shield; my heart trust in Him, and I am helped. -Psalm 28:7a

My flesh and my heart may fail, but God is the strength of my heart and my portion forever. -Psalm 73:26

The Sovereign LORD is my strength; He makes my feet like the feet of a deer, He enables me to go on the heights. -Habakkuk 3:19a

But He said to me, "My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness." Therefore I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses, so that Christ's power may rest on me...For when I am weak, then I am strong. -2 Corinthians 12:9-11

Finally, be strong in the Lord and in His mighty power. -Ephesians 6:10

You then, my son, be strong in the grace that is in Christ Jesus. -2 Timothy 2:1

And the God of all grace, who called you to His eternal glory in Christ, after you have suffered a little while, will Himself restore you and make you strong, firm and steadfast. -1 Peter 5:10

I write to you, young men, because you are strong, and the word of God lives in you, and you have overcome the evil one. -1 John 2:14b


Mi Fuerza

He vivido gran parte de mi vida con debilidad física. Y aunque continuamente tengo la esperanza y oro por un cuerpo fuerte y saludable, también estoy aprendiendo a abrazar la verdad de que en Jesús, soy fuerte. Él es mi Fuerza.


Es él quien me arma de valor y endereza mi camino; -2 Samuel 22:33

El Señor es mi fuerza y mi escudo; mi corazón en él confía; de él recibo ayuda. -Salmos 28:7a

Podrán desfallecer mi cuerpo y mi espíritu, pero Dios fortalece mi corazón; él es mi herencia eterna. -Salmos 73:26

El Señor omnipotente es mi fuerza; da a mis pies la ligereza de una gacela y me hace caminar por las alturas. -Habacuc 3:19

pero él me dijo: «Te basta con mi gracia, pues mi poder se perfecciona en la debilidad.» Por lo tanto, gustosamente haré más bien alarde de mis debilidades, para que permanezca sobre mí el poder de Cristo...porque cuando soy débil, entonces soy fuerte. -2 Corintios 12:9-10

Por último, fortalézcanse con el gran poder del Señor. -Efesios 6:10

Así que tú, hijo mío, fortalécete por la gracia que tenemos en Cristo Jesús. -2 Timoteo 2:1

Y después de que ustedes hayan sufrido un poco de tiempo, Dios mismo, el Dios de toda gracia que los llamó a su gloria eterna en Cristo, los restaurará y los hará fuertes, firmes y estables. -1 Pedro 5:10

What Makes Me Sad (Qué me entristece)

...knowing people who are amazingly special, but who don't see their own value.

...seeing loved ones in pain and wanting to just "fix" it, but knowing I can't.

...watching people continually make wrong choices that hurt them and others.

...seeing Christians live with fear and insecurity instead of realizing Jesus is right there with them and they don't have to be afraid.

...hearing about yet another person suddenly faced with tragedy.

...saying goodbye...you'd think after all the practice I've had it would get easier, but it doesn't.


If I feel sad from these things, as the frail, flawed human that I am, imagine how God must feel. He loves us SO much! He knows every detail of our lives. He understands our pain and struggles. 

Thankfully, our heavenly Father doesn't just feel sad about these things. He can do something about them! In fact, He offers us everything we need for the challenges of this life.

Jesus wants you and I to know -

...He values us far more than we can comprehend.

...He is with us no matter how awful our circumstances.

...His plans for us are always best.

...He can deliver us from fears.

...He really DOES work all things for good somehow.

...He promises us eternity with Him, where there are no more "goodbyes"!

Hallelujah! These truths comfort my heart and give me hope and joy in the sad moments.


Why are you downcast, O my soul? Why so disturbed within me? Put your hope in God, for I will yet praise Him, my Savior and my God. -Psalm 42:11


Qué me entristece

… conocer personas que son maravillosamente especiales, pero que no ven su propio valor.

… ver seres queridos con dolor y querer simplemente “arreglarlo”, pero saber que no puedo.

… ver personas que continuamente hacen decisiones equivocadas que les hieren a ellos y a otros.

… ver cristianos viviendo con dolor e inseguridad en lugar de darse cuenta que Jesús está justo ahí con ellos y no deben estar asustados.

… escuchar acerca de una persona más enfrentada súbitamente a la tragedia.

… decir adiós… pensarías que después de toda la práctica que he tenido sería cada vez más fácil, pero no.


Si me siento triste por estas cosas, como la frágil, imperfecta humana que soy, imagina como debe sentirse Dios. ¡Él nos ama tanto! Sabe cada detalle de nuestras vidas. Entiende nuestros dolores y luchas.

Gracias a Dios, nuestro Padre celestial no simplemente se siente triste acerca de estas cosas. ¡Él puede hacer algo al respecto! De hecho, ofrece todo lo que necesitamos para los desafíos de esta vida.

Jesús quiere que tú y yo sepamos –

… Él nos valora mucho más de lo que podemos comprender.

… Él está con nosotros no importa lo horrible de nuestras circunstancias.

… Sus planes para nosotros son siempre los mejores.

… Él puede librarnos de temores.

… Verdaderamente hace que las cosas nos ayuden para bien de alguna manera.

… Nos promete le eternidad con Él, ¡donde no hay más “adioses”!

¡Aleluya! Estas verdades consuelan mi corazón y me dan esperanza y gozo en los momentos tristes.


¿Por qué te abates,  oh alma mía, Y por qué te turbas dentro de mí? Espera en Dios; porque aún he de alabarle, Salvación mía y Dios mío. – Sal. 42:11

Forgetting (Olvidar)

I saw a thing on facebook that said something like, "I can remember all the words to songs from the 80's, but I can't remember why I came into this room." =)

I feel like that some days. Seems like I can remember unimportant things, like lines from movies I saw as a child, but then I forget what I'm doing today. My brain has been pretty fuzzy lately, making me more forgetful than usual.

All this led me to thinking about our great God. He is not forgetful. He never has brain lapses or stress overload. He doesn't need sticky notes or a personal assistant to remind Him of things. He is perfect; it is not possible for Him to forget. And He has chosen to love us, to remember us. 

But God will never forget the needy; the hope of the afflicted will never perish. -Psalm 9:18

Can a mother forget the baby at her breast and have no compassion on the child she has borne? Though she may forget, I will not forget you. -Isaiah 49:15

God is not unjust; He will not forget your work and the love you have shown Him.... -Hebrews 6:10

God doesn't forget us.
He doesn't forget our faith in trials.
He doesn't forget our work for Him.
He doesn't forget our love for others.
He doesn't forget our pain in suffering.
He doesn't forget our tears.
He doesn't forget our dreams.
He doesn't forget our prayers.

There is only one thing God does forget - our sins. And that's not because He's absent-minded, but because He chooses not to remember them anymore.

I, even I, am He who blots out your transgressions, for my own sake, and remembers your sins no more. -Isaiah 43:25

For I will forgive their wickedness and and will remember their sins no more. -Hebrews 8:12

What an awesome God!


Olvidar

Vi algo en facebook que decía algo así como: “Puedo recordar todas las palabras de canciones desde los 80s, pero no puedo recordar porqué entré en esta habitación.” =)

Algunos días me siento así. Parece que puedo recordar cosas sin importancia, como las líneas de películas que vi cuando era niña, pero en cambio olvido lo que estoy haciendo hoy. Mi cerebro ha estado bastante confuso últimamente, haciéndome aún más olvidadiza que siempre.

Todo esto me llevó a pensar en nuestro gran Dios. Él no es olvidadizo. Nunca tiene lapsus o sobrecargas de estrés. No necesita notas autoadhesivas o un asistente personal para recordarle cosas. Él es perfecto; Para Él no es posible olvidar. Y ha escogido amarnos, recordarnos.

Pero no se olvidará para siempre al necesitado, ni para siempre se perderá la esperanza del pobre. –Sal. 9:18

¿Puede una madre olvidar a su niño de pecho, y dejar de amar al hijo que ha dado a luz? Aun cuando ella lo olvidara, ¡yo no te olvidaré! –Is. 49:15

Porque Dios no es injusto como para olvidarse de las obras y del amor que, para su gloria, ustedes han mostrado... –He. 6:10

Dios no nos olvida.
No olvida nuestra fe en las pruebas.
No olvida nuestro trabajo para Él.
No olvida nuestro amor por otros.
No olvida nuestro dolor en el sufrimiento.
No olvida nuestras lágrimas.
No olvida nuestros sueños.
No olvida nuestras oraciones.

Hay solamente una cosa que Dios sí olvida – nuestros pecados. Y no es porque sea distraído, sino porque escoge ya no recordarlos más.

Yo soy el que por amor a mí mismo borra tus transgresiones y no se acuerda más de tus pecados. –Is. 43:25
  
Perdonaré sus maldades, y nunca más me acordaré de sus pecados. –He. 8:12

¡Qué Dios tan maravilloso!

His Promises (Sus Promesas)

I've been seeing a lot of verses about God's promises lately. It's amazing how "active" God's promises are, how they work in our lives, and how we can be active in response to them too. Food for thought....

My comfort in my suffering is this: Your promise preserves my life. -Psalm 119:50

Your promises have been thoroughly tested, and your servant loves them. -Psalm 119:140

My eyes stay open through the watches of the night, that I may meditate on your promises. -Psalm 119:148

I rejoice in your promise like one who finds great spoil. -Psalm 119:162

Blessed is she who has believed that what the Lord has said to her will be accomplished! -Luke 1:45

Yet he did not waver though unbelief regarding the promise of God, but was strengthened in his faith and gave glory to God, being fully persuaded that God had power to do what He had promised. -Romans 4:20-21

'I will be a Father to you, and you will be my sons and daughters, says the Lord Almighty.' Since we have these promises, dear friends, let us purify ourselves from everything that contaminates body and spirit, perfecting holiness out of reverence for God. -2 Corinthians 6:18-7:1

We do not want you to become lazy, but to imitate those who through faith and patience inherit what has been promised. -Hebrews 6:12

And so after waiting patiently, Abraham received what was promised. -Hebrews 6:15
 
Let us hold unswervingly to the hope we profess, for He who promised is faithful. -Hebrews 10:23

Blessed is the man who perseveres under trial, because when he has stood the test, he will receive the crown of life that God has promised to those who love Him. -James 1:12

His divine power has given us everything we need for life and godliness through our knowledge of Him who called us by His own glory and goodness. Through these He has given us His very great and precious promises, so that through them you may participate in the divine nature and escape the corruption in the world caused by evil desires. -2 Peter 1:3-4

But in keeping with His promise we are looking forward to a new heaven and a new earth, the home of righteousness. -2 Peter 3:13

So, what do God's promises do for you?

Sus Promesas

Últimamente he visto muchos versículos acerca de las promesas de Dios. Es asombroso cómo son de “activas” esas promesas, cómo trabajan en nuestras vidas y cómo nosotros también podemos ser activos en respuesta a ellas. Alimento para el pensamiento…

“Éste es mi consuelo en medio del dolor: que tu promesa me da vida.” –Sal. 119:50

“Tus promesas han superado muchas pruebas, por eso tu siervo las ama.” –Sal. 119:140

“En toda la noche no pego los ojos, para meditar en tu promesa.” –Sal. 119:148

“Yo me regocijo en tu promesa como quien halla un gran botín.” –Sal. 119:162

“¡Dichosa tú que has creído, porque lo que el Señor te ha dicho se cumplirá!” –Lc. 1:45

We Need Purity (Necesitamos Pureza)

Last month I visited a church that was doing a series about "Forgotten Virtues". The week I was there, the message was about the forgotten virtue of "Purity." It was an excellent message, and so timely for the world we live in today.

The pastor told a story about when his son was little. One day he managed to pull his dirty diaper off while riding in the car, and in the process he flung the contents all over the inside of the vehicle! While the rest of the family was appalled at the filth, the little boy was all happy and smiley. He'd been sitting in the filth long enough that it became something to play with, not something disgusting and repulsive.

Sadly, this is a picture of how the church is becoming in the world today. We're surrounded by so much filth, that it starts to become normal, even acceptable. What we desperately need is a return to purity, which is our true identity as believers in Jesus Christ.

When I came across the following post about purity that I wrote several years ago, I realized that it's more true now than even when I wrote it.

Lord, help us to recognize the importance of purity. Help us to rely on Your grace to continually purify us and set us apart from a corrupted world, that the light of Jesus might shine brighter and brighter in us. Amen.

Recently I was reading a publisher's blog, and he made the statement that unlike all the other forms of media, books can be life-changing. He commented that you never hear someone say "that movie (or TV show, CD, blog or twitter post, etc.) changed my life!" But you frequently hear people say, "that book changed my life!"

I heartily agree that books can change lives. I could list several books that had a life-changing impact on me. However, I think that all the other forms of media also change our lives, just not in the same way. Media like TV, music, and internet may not affect us immediately with a big punch, but they do have a very powerful cumulative effect.

How many movies have you watched in your lifetime? 217? 356? 1074?
We may not realize it, but all those movies (and songs, magazines, internet sites, etc.) , are communicating and reinforcing subtle messages. Depending on how careful we are about what we watch, read and listen to, we may be taking in all kinds of wrong thoughts - things like,
- when you find the "right" person, you'll be completely fulfilled and happy
- dishonesty and immorality are ok
- violence is justified
- disobedience and rebellion have no consequences
etc, etc, etc.

So while, reading one very good book can have a positive impact on our lives, often the cumulative effect of everything else we take in has a very negative impact on us, and we don't even realize it.

Jesus said, The good man brings good things out of the good stored up in his heart, and the evil man brings evil things out of the evil stored up in his heart. For out of the overflow of his heart his mouth speaks. (Luke 6:45)

Whatever we watch, read or listen to becomes part of us, ultimately changing our thinking, our character and our actions. We don't see ourselves as evil, but if we keep "storing up" evil things in our hearts, eventually they will overflow out of us.

I think it was Beth Moore who said that purity = power; no purity = no power.

God takes purity seriously, and purity starts with what comes in, not what goes out.

Lately the Lord has been continually pounding away on this theme of purity in my life. I wish I could go back 10 years and erase many of the things I allowed into my mind and heart. Instead, I'm asking God for strength to resist impure media and grace to "store up" in my heart all the GOOD things He wants to fill me with.

So, by all means, let's keep reading those good, powerful, impacting books. But let's also resist the cumulative effect of subtle, deceptive, worldly media.

I long to see God raise up a generation of Christians whose lives are Powerful in impact because of their pursuit of Purity.

Lord, let it begin with me.

And this is my prayer: that...you may be able to discern what is best and may be pure and blameless until the day of Christ, filled with the fruit of righteousness that comes through Jesus Christ—to the glory and praise of God. -Philippians 1:9-11

 
Necesitamos Pureza

El mes pasado visité una iglesia que estaba dando una serie sobre “Virtudes Olvidadas”. La semana que estuve allí el mensaje fue acerca de la virtud olvidada de la “Pureza.” Fue un mensaje excelente y my adecuado para el mundo en que vivimos hoy en día.

El pastor contó una historia de cuando su hijo era pequeño. Un día se las arregló para quitarse el pañal sucio mientras iban en el auto y en el proceso echó a volar el contenido ¡por todo el interior del vehículo! Mientras el resto de la familia estaba horrorizado por la porquería, el pequeño estaba muy feliz y risueño. Había estado sentado en la suciedad tanto tiempo que se convirtió en algo con qué jugar, no en algo desagradable y repulsivo.

Tristemente, ésta es una representación de en lo que la iglesia se está convirtiendo en el mundo actual. Estamos rodeados de tanta suciedad, que comienza a convertirse en algo normal, incluso aceptable. Lo que necesitamos desesperadamente es un regreso a la pureza, la cual es nuestra verdadera identidad como creyentes en Jesucristo.

Cuando encontré la siguiente publicación sobre la pureza, que escribí hace varios años, caí en cuenta que es más cierto ahora que cuando lo escribí.

Señor, ayúdanos a reconocer la importancia de la pureza. Ayúdanos a depender de Tu gracia para purificarnos continuamente y sepáranos de un mundo corrompido, que la luz de Jesús pueda brillar más y más en nosotros. Amén.

Hace poco estaba leyendo el blog de un autor y él declaró que, a diferencia de todos los demás medios de comunicación, los libros pueden cambiar vidas. Comentó que nunca escuchas que alguien diga “¡esa película (o programa de televisión, CD, publicación de blog o de twitter, etc.) cambió mi vida!

Estoy totalmente de acuerdo en que los libros cambian vidas. Podría enumerar muchos libros que han tenido un impacto de cambio en mí. Creo que todos los otros medios también cambian nuestras vidas, solamente que no en la misma forma. Medios como la televisión, la música y el internet puede que no nos afecten inmediatamente con un gran puñetazo, pero tienen un muy poderoso efecto acumulativo.

¿Cuántas películas has mirado en tu vida? ¿217? ¿356? ¿1074?
Puede que no nos demos cuenta, pero todas esas películas (y canciones, revistas, páginas de internet, etc.), están comunicando y reforzando mensajes sutiles. Dependiendo de cuán cuidadosos somos acerca de lo que miramos, podemos estar tomando toda clase de pensamientos erróneos- cosas como:
- cuando encuentres la persona “correcta”, serás completamente lleno y feliz
- la deshonestidad y la inmoralidad están bien
- la violencia es justificada
- la desobediencia y la rebelión no tienen consecuencias
etc. etc. etc.

Así que, mientras que leer un muy buen libro puede tener un impacto positivo en nuestras vidas, con frecuencia el efecto acumulativo de todo lo demás que tomamos tiene un impacto muy negativo sobre nosotros y ni siquiera nos damos cuenta.

Jesús dijo: El que es bueno, de la bondad que atesora en el corazón produce el bien; pero el que es malo, de su maldad produce el mal, porque de lo que abunda en el corazón habla la boca. (Lc. 6:45)

Cualquier cosa que miramos, leemos o escuchamos se convierte en parte de nosotros, cambiando finalmente nuestro pensamiento, nuestro carácter y nuestras acciones. No nos vemos a nosotros mismos como malos, pero si nos mantenemos “almacenando” cosas malas en nuestro corazón, finalmente se desbordarán fuera de nosotros.

Creo que fue Beth Moore quien dijo que pureza = poder; no pureza = no poder.

Dios toma en serio la pureza y la pureza empieza con lo que entra, no con lo que sale.

Últimamente el Señor ha estado continuamente machacando en este tema de la pureza en mi vida. Desearía poder volver atrás diez años y borrar muchas de las cosas que permití entrar en mi mente y corazón. En lugar de eso, estoy pidiendo a Dios fortaleza para resistir los medios impuros y gracia para “almacenar” en mi corazón todas las cosas BUENAS con las que Él quiere llenarme.

Así que, por todos los medios, sigamos leyendo esos buenos, poderosos, impactantes libros. Pero también resistamos el efecto acumulativo de los sutiles, engañosos, mundanos medios masivos.

Anhelo ver que Dios levante una generación de cristianos cuyas vidas sean Poderosas en impacto por su búsqueda de Pureza.

Señor, que comience conmigo.
