His Loving Embrace (Su Amoroso Abrazo)

For as high as the heavens are above the earth,
so great is His love for those who fear Him
-Psalm 103:11

The love of God is beyond our human comprehension. Yet God continually works in our lives to increase our understanding and experience of His love for us.

One day when I was enjoying time with the Lord, just worshipping Him, He gave me the words to this song. And with it, He gave me a deeper understanding of His incredible love for me.

I pray these words will strengthen or sweeten your comprehension of God's eternal love for you!

“You’re Welcome Here”

I bow before your throne, no merit of my own,
But clothed in righteousness divine.
I raise my hands in praise, yet can’t look upon your face.
You touch my head and lift it up to see,
The glory of your presence, softened by your grace,
And I am overcome.

Chorus:
I hear you say,
“You’re welcome here, I’m so glad you’ve come.
I’ve longed to hold you in my arms.
You’re welcome here, come take your place,
Find rest in my embrace.
I love you more than you could ever dream.”

I feel your arms surround me, lean my head upon your chest.
Held in perfect love eternal,
I know I’m home at last, forever here with you.
The smile on my face says it all.
What words could express the joy I feel?
I am overwhelmed.

(Chorus)

Though I can’t see you right now, I know you’re here.
Your loving arms still hold me, til the day I see you face to face,
And hear you say,

“You’re welcome here, I’m so glad you’ve come.
I’ve longed to hold you in my arms.
You’re welcome here, come take your place,
Find rest in my embrace.
I love you more than you could ever dream.”

Glorious God, help us embrace each day with joy, as we live in the joy of your loving embrace. Amen.

Su Amoroso Abrazo

Tan grande es su amor por los que le temen como alto es el cielo sobre la tierra;
–Salmos 103:11

Y me siento sobrecogida.

Coro
Eres bienvenida aquí, ven toma tu lugar,

Me siento abrumada.

(Coro)

Eres bienvenida aquí, ven toma tu lugar,

The Impact Of One Life (El Impacto De Una Vida)

My mom with our friends
Last week I said goodbye to some of our dearest friends who are moving out of state. I'm grateful we'll still be in touch thanks to technology, but it's still hard to see them go.

Before they left, we had a farewell party at our church. There was a time of open sharing for people to thank this couple for how they've blessed us. I got up and spoke for a few minutes. I easily could have talked for an hour about the many ways my dear friends have blessed me throughout my 34 years.

The room was filled with people who had stories to share. We could have been there all night! Everyone tried to keep their thanks brief, yet filled with meaning. It was a sweet celebration of two lives well lived.

As I thought about the evening, I was reminded once again of the powerful impact of one life (or one married couple) that is yielded to God.

I'm sure it's a conservative estimate to say that my friends have touched thousands of lives. The reach of their positive influence most likely goes far beyond that. They have loved, encouraged, prayed, given, led, taught, and served for many years. In small ways and defining moments, with groups, teams, or one-on-one, they have let Christ live through them. And the fruit has been abundant!

I want my life to be like that. I want to live yielded to God every day. I want Jesus to live through me, in the little things and hopefully in some bigger opportunities. I want to see just how much God will do through little, ordinary me!

My friends will be the first to tell you that they aren't perfect. =) But what matters is that they have been willing. They have chosen day by day to yield to God's will, not their own. And what a beautiful, powerful impact their lives have had!

God isn't looking for "perfect" people to use. He's looking for willing people. He wants to pour His power and grace into our lives so that through us He can display HIS greatness!

I believe there is no limit to what God can do with a life fully yielded to Him.

One life is all we have to offer, but it's all we need to watch God make an impact far beyond what we could ask or imagine. Praise His name!

Now to Him who is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine, according to His power that is at work within us, to Him be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus throughout all generations, for ever and ever! Amen. - Ephesians 3:20-21

-Ef. 3:20-21

The Light Of God (La Luz De Dios)

Do you ever have bad dreams--I mean really bad, the kind that makes you want to turn on all the lights in the house and crank up some loud praise music?

I had a dream like that not long ago. After I woke up, I tried quoting verses, singing praise songs, and praying for other people...but the sense of evil from the dream still lingered.

After a while I noticed that my room wasn't quite so dark anymore. The sun was slowly rising, and, even filtered through the curtains, its light spread around me. I felt a peace settle on my heart. I closed my eyes and went back to sleep.

Why is it that I can turn on all the lights and still feel the weight of an evil dream? But as soon as the sun spreads a tiny bit of light, all is well once again?

I think it's because even with all the lights on in the house, I know there is still darkness surrounding me outside. But once the sun shines, all is illuminated; darkness is banished.

As I thought about this, I realized what a picture this is of God and His light. Jesus said I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life (John 8:12).

When we know and believe in Jesus, we are transferred from the kingdom of darkness into the kingdom of light (Col. 1:13). We may experience hard times, evil attacks, temptations, etc. But even through all of those things, we know that darkness has been banished from our souls. We are placed in the light of God for eternity!

There is a peace that comes from living in God's light. Those who don't believe in Jesus do not have peace. They are still groping around in the darkness, running from fear, searching for something...and we are now God's instruments of light. He longs to shine through us with the reality of His presence, power and love.

As we experience the blessings of the light of God, may we reach out into the darkness by His power and lead many more souls into His light.

Arise, shine, for your light has come,

and the glory of the LORD rises upon you.
See, darkness covers the earth

and thick darkness is over the peoples,
but the LORD rises upon you

and His glory appears over you.
Nations will come to your light,

and kings to the brightness of your dawn.
-Isaiah 60:1-3

Cerré mis ojos y me volví a dormir.

 Pero la aurora del Señor brillará sobre ti;
¡sobre ti se manifestará su gloria!
Las naciones serán guiadas por tu luz,
y los reyes, por tu amanecer esplendoroso.”
-Isaías 60:1-3

Sing The Truth To Yourself (Canta la Verdad Para ti Mismo)

Romans 12:2 says, Do not conform any longer to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind.

I know we all want to keep renewing our minds. I think one of the areas we often overlook is what we put into our minds (either negatively or positively) through the music we listen to.

Music is a wonderful gift from God! It helps us express emotions, communicate ideas, stir our souls, and more.

Words that are put to music tend to run through our brains over and over again, even unconsciously at times. This can either be a very bad thing or a really good thing.

The songs of the world often contain untrue or negative messages. If we sing them over and over, we are allowing our minds to be conformed to the pattern of the world and have a destructive impact on our lives.

Instead, when we choose to be discerning about what songs we listen to and carefully select songs to sing that will help us renew our mind, we reap the positive benefits.

Our brains actually "listen" to what we think and say. Singing the truth to ourselves can have a powerful impact in creating changes in our brain and in our lives!

I think this is why the Bible is full of commands to sing praise to God (Ps. 92:1-4), to sing a new song to God (Ps. 33:3), to sing songs of thanksgiving to God (Col. 3:16), etc. For many of us, singing is even more effective than speaking when it comes to renewing our minds.

Growing up my family watched a lot of musicals, so I have many silly "show tunes" stored in my brain. But I learned early on what a strong effect music has on me. As a teenager, I chose to avoid most secular music. And even with Christian music, I always read the lyrics and choose carefully which songs I want to plant in my mind.

I look for songs that declare the wonderful truths about who God is and about who I am IN CHRIST.
I want to sing words that remind me Jesus lives in me and that inspire me to let Him live through me.
If I'm struggling in a particular area, I make up a song with the truths I need to keep my mind filled with God's perspective.
I use songs to express my love to God and to thank Him for who He is and all He's done.
And sometimes when I have no words of my own, God brings to mind the perfect song that expresses my heart and prayer to Him.

In a world where we are daily bombarded with lies and negative messages, I think it's more important than ever that we learn to sing the truth to ourselves. May God empower us to do so.

Here's one of my current favorite songs, filled with life-giving truths about our life in Christ.

What's one of your favorite "renewing your mind" songs?

Brokenness (Quebrantamiento)

Praise God! I'm almost finished with my next book - Seeing God Through The Storm: Empowering Truths From the Book of Job.

After more than three years of writing, praying and waiting, it's wonderful to see this book nearing completion. I still need to do a last read-through, proofreading, and other final details. But Lord-willing I'll have it ready to send to my publisher by the end of May! Thank you so much for your prayers and encouragement through this long process.

Here's an excerpt from the book that I pray will encourage you today.

 Chapter 20 - Brokenness

The knowledge of God’s eternal justice can comfort us in our storm (chapter 19). Whatever trials we’re going through now, we have an eternity of perfect happiness to look forward to. There are times though, when that doesn’t seem like enough, when eternity looks too far away. What are we supposed to do in the meantime? Is there nothing good in store for us while we’re still on earth?
Job asked similar questions. He said, My days have passed, my plans are shattered, and so are the desires of my heart (Job 17:11). Whatever good waited for him in eternity, Job felt he had nothing left on earth. His plans were shattered; his desires were dead. Job was a broken man.

Do you feel like Job? Does your life seem broken, shattered, empty?

As months of illness turned into years, I watched my world slowly collapse. My plans dissolved. My dreams for ministry, family, friendships, even little things like learning guitar, one by one went up in the smoke of my deteriorating health. My dreams died, and with them a part of me died too. I felt I had nothing left, just an empty heart crying out to God.

I know this breaking process isn’t something any of us would choose. Being broken involves dying—to one thing or many things. Ultimately it means accepting death of “self.” Paul wrote, I have been crucified with Christ and I no longer live, but Christ lives in me. The life I live in the body, I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave Himself for me (Gal. 2:20).

When we trusted Christ as our Savior, our sinful nature was spiritually “crucified,” meaning it’s no longer a dictator over us. However, it isn’t eradicated. We’re still attached to it. Many times our sinful nature influences us so that we choose “self” over Jesus.

In His faithfulness, God allows hardships in our lives to bring us to the point of brokenness. True brokenness is total abandonment of ourselves. It is unconditional surrender to Christ. In accepting brokenness, we willingly accept the death of “self”—death to our own will. Only when “self” has been dethroned in our hearts, can we learn how to let Jesus live His life through us.

Through the agony of my illness God was, in a sense, crushing me. But He wasn’t destroying me. He used a painful breaking process to show me my own heart—my selfish motives, self-righteousness, and self-reliance. When I was healthy and active, I rarely paid attention to those things. In my weakness, I couldn’t ignore them. When I reached the place where I had nothing left of myself to rely on, I finally realized that Jesus is all I need.

I’ve heard it said that every person who is greatly used by God is first deeply broken by God. I believe it! I wanted to serve God with my abilities and passions. I wanted to do things my way, in my own strength. God wanted me to abandon my own will and seek His will. He wanted me to learn how weak I am, so He could fill me with His strength. He wanted me to stop looking to things or people to fill my heart and let Him alone satisfy me completely. He wanted me to die to myself so that Jesus could reign in me!

Coming to the point of brokenness is a painful thing. But it is necessary. It’s not a punishment—it’s a preparation. Jesus said, I tell you the truth, unless a kernel of wheat falls to the ground and dies, it remains only a single seed. But if it dies, it produces many seeds (John 12:24).

After death comes new life! When we accept death of “self,” God teaches us how to walk in His life. God must bring each of us to the place where He is all we have and all we desire. Then we’ll be ready for Him to use us in ways we never imagined.

Living in dependence on Jesus instead of relying on self is a lifelong journey. One that begins with brokenness. As God pours His life into our hearts, we’ll see Him do more through us than we could ever do on our own! That’s why brokenness is the path to fruitfulness.

God took Job through a more difficult breaking process than anyone else has probably ever experienced. Job literally had nothing left, only anguish. But the LORD wasn’t finished with Job. Job didn’t know the rest of his story. He had no idea of the fruitful future God had in store for him. I don’t think we do either.

God has good plans for us while we’re on this earth—but they are His plans, not ours. Through brokenness we learn to lay down our desires, our lives, our “self,” and offer our broken pieces to God. As He reshapes them by His grace, we’ll be amazed at the beauty and magnificence of the dreams, plans, and Christ-filled life God has in store for us!

To be powerfully used by God requires brokenness. But take heart! Brokenness is the beginning of something beautiful.

Quebrantamiento

¡Gloria a Dios!

Job hizo preguntas similares.

Todavía estamos unidos a ella.
