Learning to Listen (Aprendiendo a escuchar)

On my recent trip to ID, I was flying at about 37,000 feet. Beneath the plane was a bank of clouds that looked like a huge flock of sheep spread out, lazily resting in the sunshine.

With such peaceful surroundings, a funny question occurred to me. Is it easier to hear God's voice at 37,000 feet above the earth?

I imagine some people might think so. If God lives in heaven, then the closer to heaven, the closer to God, right? :)

Thankfully, while God does live in heaven, He also dwells with us.

When Jesus came to earth, it was as "Emmanuel" - God with us. Jesus came so we could experience God not from a distance but near and ever present.

Not only is God with us, but I believe He is also speaking.

Sometimes it may feel like He's silent. But I think perhaps that is so we will learn to listen to Him in new ways.

God continually speaks through creation, through His Word the Bible, through other people, through circumstances, through His Holy Spirit in a still small voice....

God wants us to hear His voice. He wants to have an ongoing conversation with us. I think it delights His heart when we ask Him to teach us how to listen to Him.

We won't always hear Him perfectly.
We may not always like what we hear.
We may not always obey what we hear.
But the more we learn to listen, the more we'll experience the reality of His presence with us always.

And the more I've learned to listen, the more I've come to delight in my God.

It doesn't really matter where we are, on earth or flying above the clouds. God is with us, and He can teach us how to listen to His voice more and more.

"I am the good shepherd...My sheep listen to my voice; I know them and they follow me." -Jesus
(from John 10:11, 27)

Aprendiendo a escuchar

. .Mis ovejas oyen mi voz; yo las conozco y ellas me siguen.”
-Jesús (de Jn. 10:11, 27)

This is so spot on. One of my favorite posts. God is truly always speaking to us. We allow our feelings, physical and emotional to tell us that He is not there, but He does not change. If we can always remember, even in the chaos, that He is right there, walking with us, and He is speaking. He is telling us to trust Him. He is saying" I Am here." He is saying "Do not be afraid n I have overcome the world".
