No Guilt, No Fear (Sin Culpa, Sin Temor)

Therefore, there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus (Romans 8:1).

There is no fear in love. But perfect love drives out fear (1 John 4:18a).

No condemnation and perfect love - these are our gifts in Jesus Christ. 

We are no longer guilty. We no longer need to fear anything. 

So why do we? 

What would my life actually look like if I lived with NO guilt and NO fear? 

I'm not sure I can imagine it. 

Guilt and fear are like familiar foes. I may not like them, but I'm used to them. I try not to let them stay around for long, but then I'm not surprised when they return again. I don't want to live with them, but some days it's hard to get rid of them.

How can I change this?

Only by looking at Jesus can I imagine what it's like to live without guilt or fear. He lived this life perfectly - unafraid, sinless. He is the ultimate example of a fearless life. 

But Jesus isn't just a good example for me to follow. 

Jesus lives IN ME! 

Through His life and power at work in me, I can learn to let go of guilt and to reject fear. Hallelujah!

Jesus, thank you for living IN US! Teach us to rely on your life and power to live with no fear and no guilt. May you display your glory in us and through us to a world of hurting people - because you are ABLE! 

Amen.

Now to Him who is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine, according to His power that is at work within us, to Him be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus throughout all generations, for ever and ever! Amen. -Ephesians 3:20-21

Sin Culpa, Sin Temor

Por lo tanto, ya no hay ninguna condenación para los que están unidos a Cristo Jesús (Romanos 8:1).

En el amor no hay temor, sino que el amor perfecto echa fuera el temor (1Jn. 4:18a).

Ninguna condenación y amor perfecto – estos son nuestros regalos en Jesucristo.

Ya no somos culpables. Ya no necesitamos temer nada.

Entonces, ¿qué hacemos?

En realidad, ¿cómo se vería mi vida si viviera SIN ninguna condenación y SIN temor?

No estoy segura de poder imaginarlo.

La culpa y el temor son como enemigos familiares. Puede que no me gusten, pero estoy acostumbrada a ellos. Trato de no permitirles permanecer por mucho tiempo, pero entonces no me sorprende cuando regresan. No quiero vivir con ellos, pero algunos días es difícil deshacerse de ellos.

¿Cómo puedo cambiar esto?

Sólo mirando a Jesús puedo imaginar cómo es vivir sin culpa o temor. Él vivió esta vida perfectamente – sin miedo, sin pecado. Él es el máximo ejemplo de una vida sin temores.

Pero Jesús no es solamente un buen ejemplo a seguir.

¡Jesús vive EN MÍ!

A través de Su vida y poder trabajando en mí, puedo aprender a soltar la culpa y rechazar el temor. ¡Aleluya!

Jesús, ¡gracias por vivir EN NOSOTROS! Enséñanos a descansar en tu vida y tu poder para vivir sin temor y sin culpa. Despliega tu gloria en nosotros y a través de nosotros a un mundo de gente herida – porque ¡tú PUEDES!

Al que puede hacer muchísimo más que todo lo que podamos imaginarnos o pedir,  por el poder que obra eficazmente en nosotros, ¡a él sea la gloria en la iglesia y en Cristo Jesús por todas las generaciones,  por los siglos de los siglos!  Amén.

Fruit From Suffering (Fruto Del Sufrimiento)

"So often the soil of our suffering will become the fertile ground for our seasons of fruitfulness."

I read this quote last week, and it stuck with me. I praise God that this is true! 

The last 9 years have been a long season of suffering for me. But I'm so grateful that God has brought and is bringing fruit from it! 

Part of that fruit is a project I've worked on and prayed about for over three years. Thank you to all of you who have also prayed! At last I'm thrilled to announce the release of my new book -

I believe that at this time the Lord is moving me out of the season of suffering into a new season. I hope and expect that it will be a season of much fruitfulness by His power and grace! 

Whatever trial you may be going through right now, I pray you'll be encouraged today. God does not waste anything, especially our pain. I know He has a plan to bring fruitfulness from your season of suffering. 

May He be glorified in our lives in every season.

Fruto Del Sufrimiento

Leí esta cita la semana pasada y se me quedó grabada. ¡Alabo a Dios porque esto es verdad!

Los últimos nueve años han sido una larga temporada de sufrimiento para mí. Pero ¡estoy tan agradecida que Dios ha traído y sigue trayendo fruto de ésa!

Creo que en este momento el Señor me está sacando de la temporada de sufrimiento a una nueva de mucha fertilidad, ¡Por Su poder y Su gracia!

Cualquiera que sea la prueba por la que estés atravesando ahora mismo, oro que seas animado hoy. Dios no desperdicia nada, especialmente nuestro dolor. Sé que tiene un plan para traer fruto aún de tu temporada de sufrimiento.

Que Él sea glorificado en nuestras vidas en cada temporada.

La gloria,  Señor,  no es para nosotros; no es para nosotros sino para tu nombre, por causa de tu amor y tu verdad.

"Who Do You Say I Am?" (¿Tú Quien Dices Que Soy?)

Jesus and His disciples went on to the villages around Caesarea Philippi. On the way He asked them, “Who do people say I am?”

They replied, “Some say John the Baptist; others say Elijah; and still others, one of the prophets.”

“But what about you?” He asked. “Who do you say I am?”

Peter answered, “You are the Messiah.” -Mark 8:27-29

Jesus was a controversial figure in many ways. He wasn't the kind of man you could figure out or label, though many tried. Even His own disciples were often confused about what Jesus said or did. 

To Jesus the most important thing wasn't what people said about Him. It was who they believed He was.

One day Jesus asked his disciples, "Who do people say I am?" The disciples knew what rumors and theories were floating around about Jesus.

Then Jesus asked them, "Who do you say I am?" Peter spoke up for them all - "You are the  Messiah." 

Did Peter fully understand all that "Messiah" meant? Apparently not (just keep reading Mark 8 to see). But he knew Jesus wasn't who all the people said He was. Peter knew Jesus was the One he'd been waiting for, the One he wanted to follow for the rest of his life.

What about you? Have you ever heard Jesus asking you, "Who do you say I am?" 

Not, "what do you think about me?" or "what have you heard about me?"

But "Really, truly, who do you say I am?" 

I was only five when I answered this question with "You're my Savior." As the years have passed, I've added more answers, like "You're my strength, my hope, my best friend." 

Lately I heard Jesus asking me yet again, "Joanna, who do you say I am? Not just with all you've learned in the past, but today, right here, right where you are, who am I to you?"

I knew the answer I wanted to give, but I couldn't say it with full sincerity of heart. Instead I offered it as a prayer, "This is my desire Jesus, that I can say - you are the very air I breathe. You are every beat of my heart!"

Isn't it amazing that our perfect Messiah is not content to simply save us? He wants to be so close to us that His presence is like oxygen and His love is our life. 

Jesus is SO MUCH MORE than we can imagine! May we respond to His loving pursuit with whole-hearted, joyful abandon.

¿Tú Quien Dices Que Soy?

“Salieron Jesús y sus discípulos por las aldeas de Cesarea de Filipo. Y en el camino preguntó a sus discípulos, diciéndoles: ¿Quién dicen los hombres que soy yo?

Ellos respondieron: Unos, Juan el Bautista;  otros, Elías;  y otros,  alguno de los profetas.

Entonces él les dijo: Y ustedes, ¿quién dicen que soy?  Respondiendo Pedro, le dijo: Tú eres el Cristo.” –Mr. 8:27-29

Jesús fue una figura controversial de muchas maneras. No era la clase de hombre que podrías entender o etiquetar, aunque muchos lo intentaron. Incluso Sus propios discípulos se confundían con frecuencia con lo que hacía o decía.

Para Jesús lo más importante no era lo que la gente decía de Él, sino quién creían que era.

Un día Jesús preguntó a sus discípulos: “¿Quién dicen los hombres que soy yo?” Los discípulos sabían los rumores y teorías que flotaban alrededor de Jesús.

Luego les preguntó: “Y ustedes, ¿quién dicen que soy?” Pedro habló por todos ellos – “Tú eres el Cristo”.

¿Entendía Pedro completamente todo lo que “el Cristo” significaba? Aparentemente no (sólo sigue leyendo Marcos 8 para verlo). Pero sabía que Jesús no era quien toda la gente decía que era. Sabía que era Aquel por quien había estado esperando, Aquel a quien quería seguir por el resto de su vida.

¿Y qué de ti? Alguna vez has escuchado a Jesús preguntándote: “¿Tú quien dices que soy?”

No “¿Qué piensas de mí?” o “¿Qué has escuchado acerca de mí?”

Sino “Realmente, verdaderamente, ¿quién dices que soy?”

Yo tenía solamente cinco años cuando respondí a esta pregunta con “Eres mi Salvador.” Con el pasar de los años he agregado más respuestas, como “Eres mi fuerza, mi esperanza, mi mejor amigo.”

Últimamente le he escuchado preguntarme una vez más: “Joanna, ¿quién dices que soy? No sólo con todo lo que has aprendido en el pasado, sino hoy, justo aquí, justo donde estás, ¿quién soy para ti?”

Sabía la respuesta que quería dar, pero no podía darla con total sinceridad de corazón. En lugar de eso la ofrecí como una oración: “Este es mi deseo Jesús, que pueda decir – eres el aire mismo que respiro. ¡Eres cada latido de mi corazón!”

¿No es maravilloso que nuestro perfecto Mesías no esté contento sencillamente con salvarnos? Quiere estar tan cerca de nosotros que Su presencia es como oxígeno y Su amor es nuestra vida.

¡Jesús es MUCHÍSIMO MÁS de lo que podemos imaginar! Respondamos a Su amorosa búsqueda con un abandono gozoso, de todo corazón.

For His Delight (Para Su Deleite)

When my mom and I returned from a two-week road trip last month, our backyard resembled a jungle. The grass was high and mom's garden was overrun with weeds. Yet in the middle of the jungle, our rosebushes were in full bloom! 

I counted six roses on the white bush and I think five on the yellow one. The pink bush had two fading blooms, and clearly it had produced several flowers while we were gone.

It seemed ironic to me that such beauty would be on display when no one was here to appreciate it. Then I realized that Someone was here to enjoy it. Our creator God took delight in those gorgeous flowers, even amidst the overgrown grass and weeds. 

I know what it's like to feel like a bush hidden away where no one can see. Have you? Or maybe you've felt like you're surrounded by a jungle of weeds. 

But even in those times, our Creator God still has His eyes on us. He still delights in us! 

We are His special, unique creation. We are His precious children. We are His beloved. 

God delights in us not because of what others think or how they see us, but because we are His.

It doesn't matter if we feel invisible to the rest of the world or surrounded by difficulty. We can lift our eyes to the One who died for us, and smile, knowing that we are here - in this time and this place - for His delight.

Hallelujah!

The LORD your God is with you, He is mighty to save. He will take great delight in you, He will quiet you with His love, He will rejoice over you with singing.

Para Su Deleite

Cuando mi mamá y yo regresamos de un viaje de dos semanas el mes pasado, nuestro jardín parecía una selva. El pasto estaba alto y el jardín de mi mamá estaba invadido con hierbas. Sin embargo, en medio de la selva, ¡nuestros rosales estaban en pleno florecimiento!

Conté seis rosas en el rosal blanco y creo que cinco en el amarillo. El rosado tenía dos decolorándose y, claramente, había producido varias flores mientras no estuvimos.

Me pareció irónico que semejante belleza pudiera ser mostrada cuando nadie estaba aquí para apreciarla. Entonces, caí en cuenta que Alguien estaba aquí para disfrutarla. Nuestro creador Dios se deleitó en aquellas hermosas flores escondidas en medio de hierbas y pasto descuidado.

Yo sé lo que es sentirse como un arbusto escondido donde nadie puede verte. ¿Y tú? O tal vez te has sentido como si estuvieras rodeado por una selva de hierbas.

Pero aún en esos tiempos, Dios nuestro Creador todavía nos observa. ¡Todavía se deleita en nosotros!

Somos Su creación especial, única. Sus preciosos hijos. Sus amados.

Dios se deleita en nosotros no por lo que otros piensan o como nos ven, sino porque somos SUYOS.

No importa si nos sentimos invisibles para el resto del mundo o rodeados por dificultades. Podemos levantar nuestros ojos a Aquel que murió por nosotros y sonreír, sabiendo que estamos aquí – en este tiempo y este lugar – para Su deleite.

¡Aleluya!

I'm so thankful I was able to attend the "Awaken NOW" conference this month. It was incredible to be there with thousands of other Jesus-followers! 

All of the speakers were amazing, and I took tons of notes. I'm still thinking through all the great truth I heard.

My Jesus (Mi Jesús)

The Son is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn over all creation. For in Him all things were created: things in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or powers or rulers or authorities; all things have been created through Him and for Him. He is before all things, and in Him all things hold together. And He is the head of the body, the church; He is the beginning and the firstborn from among the dead, so that in everything He might have the supremacy. -Colossians 1:15-18

The Son is the radiance of God’s glory and the exact representation of His being, sustaining all things by His powerful word. After He had provided purification for sins, He sat down at the right hand of the Majesty in heaven. -Hebrews 1:3

But because Jesus lives forever, He has a permanent priesthood. Therefore He is able to save completely those who come to God through Him, because He always lives to intercede for them.

Such a high priest truly meets our need—one who is holy, blameless, pure, set apart from sinners, exalted above the heavens. -Hebrews 7:24-26

Mi Jesús

Él es la imagen del Dios invisible,

    el primogénito de toda creación,

porque por medio de él fueron creadas todas las cosas 

   en el cielo y en la tierra, visibles e invisibles,

    sean tronos, poderes, principados o autoridades:

todo ha sido creado por medio de él y para él.

Él es anterior a todas las cosas,

    que por medio de él forman un todo coherente.

Él es la cabeza del cuerpo,

    que es la iglesia.

Él es el principio,

    el primogénito de la resurrección,

   para ser en todo el primero.

Nos convenía tener un sumo sacerdote así: santo, irreprochable, puro, apartado de los pecadores y exaltado sobre los cielos. -Hebreos 7:24-26
