Fear of the Lord by Adam McClendon
Poor Job! Have you ever read about his life and just thought, “Man, I’m glad I’m not him.” He had it so tough, and to top it off, he had a wife telling him to curse God and die, and three well-intentioned friends inaccurately telling him that he was suffering due to sin in his life.
In 28:1-11, Job explains that humankind are masters at finding treasures of ore, iron, copper, gold and the like in the earth, but the greatest treasure any person can find is wisdom. But where can wisdom be obtained (28:12-27)? In answering the question, Job declares: “Behold, the fear of the Lord, that is wisdom, and to turn away from evil is understanding” (28:28).
Here is what I find puzzling. “How does a reverential fear of the Lord help bring perspective in the midst of suffering?” In pondering that question, I think three key things are happening when I focus on a righteous fear of the Lord in the midst of my suffering.
1. It causes me to acknowledge that he is God and I’m not.
Okay, I agree, it’s a bit of a cliché, but it is also true. In Job, God is the providential, sovereign Lord over all. Nothing happens without it passing through his good hands. Life is not random, it is not coincidental, because God is not random. He is creator God and has the right to ordain events or allow events as he sees fit.
2. It realigns the system so that I understand that I report to him, and not the other way around.
I’m the servant. The servant doesn’t gripe to the master because he doesn’t like the task assigned to him. A true servant serves the purposes of the master to push forward the master’s will at the expense of the servant’s.
3. It humbles me to know that there are mysterious purposes beyond my limited perspective.
Just because I don’t understand and can’t see the purpose doesn’t mean that one does not exist. I may not even experience the goodness of the purpose in my lifetime. Job may have never known the purpose for which he suffered, yet millions of people have been encouraged by his story of faith and of failure.
In the end, a fear of the Lord brings wisdom. Why? Because, as I appropriately gaze at God as the sovereign and just Lord that he is, I find a humbling perspective that life is not just about me.

Temor del Señor por Adam McClendon
¡Pobre Job! Alguna vez has leído acerca de su vida y pensado sencillamente: “Me alegro de no ser él.” ¡Le tocó tan duro! Y para colmo, tenía a la esposa diciéndole que maldijera a Dios y muriera; y tres amigos bien intencionados diciéndole erróneamente que estaba sufriendo debido a pecado en su vida.
En 28:1-11, Job explica que los seres humanos son maestros en encontrar tesoros de mineral, hierro, cobre, oro y semejantes en la tierra; pero el tesoro más grande que cualquier persona puede encontrar es sabiduría. Pero, ¿dónde se puede obtener la sabiduría (28:12-27)? Respondiendo a la pregunta, Job declara: “Temer al Señor: ¡eso es sabiduría! Apartarse del mal: ¡eso es discernimiento!" (28:28).
Esto es lo que encuentro desconcertante. “¿Cómo es que un temor reverencial por el Señor ayuda a traer perspectiva en medio del sufrimiento?” Meditando en esa pregunta, creo que hay tres cosas claves que están sucediendo cuando me enfoco en un correcto temor del Señor en medio de mi sufrimiento.
1. Me hace reconocer que él es Dios y yo no.
Está bien, estoy de acuerdo, es un poco como un cliché, pero también es cierto. En Job, Dios es el providencial, soberano Señor sobre todo. Nada sucede sin pasar a través de sus buenas manos. La vida no es azar, no es por coincidencia, porque Dios no es azar. Él es Dios creador y tiene el derecho de ordenar o permitir eventos como sepa que es conveniente.
2. Realinea el sistema para que yo entienda que me reporto ante él y no al revés.
Yo soy el siervo. El siervo no le rezonga al amo porque no le gusta la tarea que le fue asignada. Un verdadero siervo sirve los propósitos del maestro para impulsar su voluntad a expensas de la del siervo.
3. Me hace humilde saber que hay propósitos misteriosos más allá de mi limitada perspectiva.
Sólo porque no entiendo ni puedo ver el propósito, eso no significa que no exista uno. Incluso puede que no experimente la bondad del propósito de por vida. Puede que Job nunca haya conocido el propósito para el cual sufrió, sin embargo millones de personas han sido animadas por su historia de fe y de fracaso.
Al final, un temor del Señor trae sabiduría. ¿Por qué? Porque, cuando contemplo adecuadamente a Dios como el soberano y justo Señor que es, encuentro una experiencia que me hace humilde, de que la vida no se trata sólo de mí.

Christmas in July (Navidad en Julio)
This week I wanted to repost something I wrote a few Christmases ago. It's a reminder I needed this month. I hope it encourages you too. =)
Fearless Baby
My theme for this year has been "Fearless!" And it's been quite a year of learning about and living out this lesson. As Christmas approaches, I've been thinking about a very special and fearless baby.
Jesus, the eternal Son of God,
- who knew the glories of heaven,
- who created the world,
- who ruled over angels...
chose to become a helpless infant.
That boggles my mind! How could Almighty God willingly become helpless? That was a completely foreign experience for GOD.
Jesus knew before He stepped out of eternity into time, that as a little baby He would face needs, perils, and distresses. He knew He would be helpless to do anything. He knew He would be totally dependent on mere humans for His safety and well-being. But He came anyway.
Talk about FEARLESS!
None of us would ever willingly put ourselves in a completely helpless situation...unless we had perfect confidence in someone else to take of us. (Like undergoing surgery, for example.)
I believe the reason Jesus could become a helpless baby, is because He had perfect confidence in His Father. Jesus knew that for a time He would be utterly unable to do anything for Himself. But He trusted in the Father's power and plan.
The reality is that even with all we think we can do, we are still helpless without God.
But isn't that exactly why Jesus came?
- because all of our efforts fall short,
- because we needed a Savior,
- because in His love God reached out to the helpless by becoming one of us and revealing Himself to us.
Jesus knows what it's like to be helpless - yet fearless! He came so that He could not only experience our weaknesses, but give us His power to overcome.
So many times I've heard God asking, "Will you trust me? Even when you feel helpless, will you have confidence in my power and plan?"
In my own efforts, I fail to trust God. But I'm so thankful for that fearless baby who grew up, died on a cross, rose from the dead, ascended to heaven, and now lives in me!
Jesus enables us to face every situation, no matter how helpless we feel, with a perfect confidence in the Father that will make us FEARLESS!
But the angel said to them, “Do not be afraid. I bring you good news of great joy that will be for all the people. Today in the town of David a Savior has been born to you; He is Christ the Lord. This will be a sign to you: You will find a baby wrapped in cloths and lying in a manger.”
Suddenly a great company of the heavenly host appeared with the angel, praising God and saying,
“Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace to men on whom His favor rests.”
-Luke 2:10-14

Esta semana quería volver a publicar algo que escribí hace unos años para la época navideña. Es un recordatorio que necesitaba este mes. Confío en que te sea de ánimo también.
Bebé Intrépido
Mi tema para este año ha sido “¡Intrépida!” Y ha sido un año de aprendizaje y de vivir esta lección. Al aproximarse la navidad he estado pensando en un bebé muy especial e intrépido.
Jesús, el eterno Hijo de Dios,
- quien conocía las glorias del cielo,
- quien creó el mundo,
- quien gobernó sobre ángeles…
Decidió convertirse en un indefenso bebé.
¡Eso me deja asombrada! ¿Cómo pudo el Dios Todopoderoso hacerse indefenso? Esa fue una experiencia totalmente extraña para DIOS.
Jesús sabía antes de salir de la eternidad al tiempo, que como bebecito enfrentaría necesidades, peligros y angustias. Sabía que estaría indefenso para hacer cualquier cosa. Sabía que sería totalmente dependiente de sencillos humanos para Su seguridad y bienestar. Pero, de todos modos vino.
¡Hablemos de intrepidez!
Ninguno de nosotros se pondría nunca en una situación de completa indefensión… a menos que tuviéramos una confianza perfecta en que alguien nos ayudará. (Como someternos a una cirugía, por ejemplo.)
Creo que la razón por la que Jesús pudo convertirse en un bebé indefenso es porque tenía confianza en Su Padre. Sabía que por un tiempo sería totalmente incapaz de hacer nada por sí mismo. Pero confiaba en el poder y plan del Padre.
La realidad es que aún con todo lo que pensamos que podemos hacer, estamos indefensos sin Dios.
¿Pero, no es exactamente por eso que vino Jesús?
- porque todos nuestros esfuerzos se quedan cortos,
- porque necesitábamos un Salvador,
- Porque en Su amor Dios extendió Su mano a los indefensos haciéndose uno de nosotros y revelándosenos Él mismo.
Jesús sabe lo que es estar indefenso - ¡pero a la vez ser intrépido! Él vino no solamente para poder experimentar nuestras debilidades, sino que también nos da Su poder para superarlas.
Muchas veces he escuchado a Dios preguntándome: “¿Vas a confiar en mí? Aun cuando te sientas indefensa, ¿tendrás confianza en mi poder y mi plan?”
Por mis propios esfuerzos fallo en confiar en Dios. Pero ¡estoy tan agradecida por ese bebé intrépido que creció, murió en una cruz, se levantó de los muertos, ascendió al cielo y ahora vive en mí!
Jesús nos capacita para enfrentar cada situación, sin importar cuán indefensos nos sentimos, ¡con una confianza perfecta en el Padre que nos hará INTRÉPIDOS!
Pero el ángel les dijo: "No tengan miedo. Miren que les traigo buenas noticias que serán motivo de mucha alegría para todo el pueblo.
Hoy les ha nacido en la ciudad de David un Salvador, que es Cristo el Señor.
Esto les servirá de señal: Encontrarán a un niño envuelto en pañales y acostado en un pesebre."
De repente apareció una multitud de ángeles del cielo, que alababan a Dios y decían:
"Gloria a Dios en las alturas, y en la tierra paz a los que gozan de su buena voluntad."
-Lucas 2:10-14

Common To All (Común a Todos)
Today I heard a song that was first released in 1984. I have no idea what circumstances prompted the songwriter to write this particular song. But as I listened to it, it was like she wrote it for me, right now in this moment.
Have you ever experienced something similar?
How is it possible that a song written when I was 5 years old, by someone I've never met, could speak so specifically to my heart today?
I believe that while we each face varying circumstances, we all share the same experience of life on this fallen earth.
What is the one thing every person on this planet has in common?
Pain.
Pain comes in different forms - physical, emotional, relational, etc. Regardless of the kind of pain, everyone can relate to it. No matter age, location, nationality, or economic status, pain is a universal reality.
The Apostle Paul said it like this,
"No temptation has overtaken you that is not common to man..." (1 Corinthians 10:13).
The details of circumstances may differ, but the bottom line of pain is common to all.
However Paul didn't stop there.
"No temptation has overtaken you that is not common to man. God is faithful...."
I'm so thankful that regardless of age, location, nationality or economic status, God is faithful! It is His goodness, faithfulness, love and grace that enable us to endure life in a fallen world.
"No temptation has overtaken you that is not common to man. God is faithful, and he will not let you be tempted beyond your ability, but with the temptation he will also provide the way of escape, that you may be able to endure it." -1 Cor. 10:13 (ESV)
The reason a song from 1984 could encourage me today is because the songwriter and I have the shared experience of pain. In her pain, she found God to be faithful. As she expressed that in her song, I was encouraged that God will be faithful in my pain as well.
Again, Paul described this very thing almost 2000 years ago.
"Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of compassion and the God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our troubles, so that we can comfort those in any trouble with the comfort we ourselves receive from God" (2 Cor. 1:3-4).
God is faithful. He comforts us. He comforts others through us. He comforts us through others. We need to hear each other's stories of His goodness.
Then our shared experience of pain will become a shared experience of praise. Praise to a God who is loving, merciful, gracious, faithful and good in the midst of a pain-filled earth.
Great is the LORD and most worthy of praise;
his greatness no one can fathom.
One generation commends your works to another;
they tell of your mighty acts.
They speak of the glorious splendor of your majesty—
and I will meditate on your wonderful works.
They tell of the power of your awesome works—
and I will proclaim your great deeds.
They celebrate your abundant goodness
and joyfully sing of your righteousness.
The LORD is gracious and compassionate,
slow to anger and rich in love.
The LORD is good to all;
he has compassion on all he has made.
The LORD is trustworthy in all he promises
and faithful in all he does.
The LORD upholds all who fall
and lifts up all who are bowed down.
The LORD is righteous in all his ways
and faithful in all he does.
The LORD is near to all who call on him,
to all who call on him in truth.
He fulfills the desires of those who fear him;
he hears their cry and saves them.
The LORD watches over all who love him,
but all the wicked he will destroy.

Común a Todos
Hoy escuché una canción que salió al aire por primera vez en 1984. No tengo idea de cuáles circunstancias llevaron a la autora a escribir esta canción en particular. Pero mientras la escuchaba, fue como si la hubiese escrito para mí, en ese mismo momento.
¿Alguna vez has experimentado algo similar?
¿Cómo es posible que una canción escrita cuando yo tenía cinco años, por alguien a quien nunca he conocido, pudiera hablar tan específicamente a mi corazón hoy?
Creo que aunque cada uno enfrentamos diferentes circunstancias, todos compartimos la misma experiencia de vida en esta tierra caída.
¿Qué es la única cosa que todas las personas en este planeta tenemos en común?
Dolor
El dolor viene en formas diferentes – física, emocional, relacional, etc. Sin importar la clase de dolor, todo el mundo puede relacionarse a él. Sin importar la edad, ubicación, nacionalidad o estado económico, el dolor es una realidad universal.
El apóstol Pablo lo dice así: “Ustedes no han sufrido ninguna tentación que no sea común al género humano…” (1 Co. 10:13).
Los detalles de las circunstancias pueden ser diferentes, pero el resultado final es que el dolor es común a todos.
Sin embargo, Pablo no se detuvo ahí.
“Ustedes no han sufrido ninguna tentación que no sea común al género humano. Pero Dios es fiel…”
Estoy agradecida que sin importar edad, ubicación, nacionalidad o estrato económico, ¡Dios es fiel! Es Su bondad, fidelidad, amor y gracia lo que nos capacita para soportar la vida en un mundo caído.
“Ustedes no han sufrido ninguna tentación que no sea común al género humano. Pero Dios es fiel, y no permitirá que ustedes sean tentados más allá de lo que puedan aguantar. Más bien, cuando llegue la tentación, él les dará también una salida a fin de que puedan resistir.” -1 Co. 10:13 (NVI)
La razón por la que una canción de 1984 pudo levantar mi ánimo hoy es porque la autora y yo tenemos la experiencia compartida del dolor. En su dolor, ella encontró que Dios es fiel. Al expresarlo en su canción, me dio ánimo que Dios será fiel en mi dolor también.
Una vez más, Pablo describió lo mismo hace casi 2000 años.
“Alabado sea el Dios y Padre de nuestro Señor Jesucristo, Padre misericordioso y Dios de toda consolación, quien nos consuela en todas nuestras tribulaciones para que con el mismo consuelo que de Dios hemos recibido, también nosotros podamos consolar a todos los que sufren.” (2 Co. 1: 3-4).
Dios es fiel. Él nos consuela, consuela a otros a través de nosotros, nos consuela a través de otros. Necesitamos escuchar de otros las historias de Su bondad.
Entonces, nuestra experiencia compartida de dolor se convertirá en una experiencia compartida de alabanza. Alabanza a un Dios que es amoroso, misericordioso, bondadoso, fiel y bueno en medio de una tierra llena de dolor.
1 Te exaltaré, mi Dios y rey;
por siempre bendeciré tu nombre.
2 Todos los días te bendeciré;
por siempre alabaré tu nombre.
3 Grande es el Señor, y digno de toda alabanza;
su grandeza es insondable.
4 Cada generación celebrará tus obras
y proclamará tus proezas.
5 Se hablará del esplendor de tu gloria y majestad,
y yo meditaré en tus obras maravillosas.
6 Se hablará del poder de tus portentos,
y yo anunciaré la grandeza de tus obras.

God is faithful. He comforts us. He comforts others through us. He comforts us through others. We need to hear each other's stories of His goodness.
Then our shared experience of pain will become a shared experience of praise. Praise to a God who is loving, merciful, gracious, faithful and good in the midst of a pain-filled earth.
Great is the LORD and most worthy of praise;
his greatness no one can fathom.
One generation commends your works to another;
they tell of your mighty acts.
They speak of the glorious splendor of your majesty—
and I will meditate on your wonderful works.

Común a Todos
Hoy escuché una canción que salió al aire por primera vez en 1984. No tengo idea de cuáles circunstancias llevaron a la autora a escribir esta canción en particular. Pero mientras la escuchaba, fue como si la hubiese escrito para mí, en ese mismo momento.
¿Alguna vez has experimentado algo similar?
¿Cómo es posible que una canción escrita cuando yo tenía cinco años, por alguien a quien nunca he conocido, pudiera hablar tan específicamente a mi corazón hoy?
Creo que aunque cada uno enfrentamos diferentes circunstancias, todos compartimos la misma experiencia de vida en esta tierra caída.
¿Qué es la única cosa que todas las personas en este planeta tenemos en común?
Dolor
El dolor viene en formas diferentes – física, emocional, relacional, etc. Sin importar la clase de dolor, todo el mundo puede relacionarse a él. Sin importar la edad, ubicación, nacionalidad o estado económico, el dolor es una realidad universal.
El apóstol Pablo lo dice así: “Ustedes no han sufrido ninguna tentación que no sea común al género humano…” (1 Co. 10:13).
Los detalles de las circunstancias pueden ser diferentes, pero el resultado final es que el dolor es común a todos.
Sin embargo, Pablo no se detuvo ahí.
“Ustedes no han sufrido ninguna tentación que no sea común al género humano. Pero Dios es fiel…”
Estoy agradecida que sin importar edad, ubicación, nacionalidad o estrato económico, ¡Dios es fiel! Es Su bondad, fidelidad, amor y gracia lo que nos capacita para soportar la vida en un mundo caído.
“Ustedes no han sufrido ninguna tentación que no sea común al género humano. Pero Dios es fiel, y no permitirá que ustedes sean tentados más allá de lo que puedan aguantar. Más bien, cuando llegue la tentación, él les dará también una salida a fin de que puedan resistir.” -1 Co. 10:13 (NVI)
La razón por la que una canción de 1984 pudo levantar mi ánimo hoy es porque la autora y yo tenemos la experiencia compartida del dolor. En su dolor, ella encontró que Dios es fiel. Al expresarlo en su canción, me dio ánimo que Dios será fiel en mi dolor también.
Una vez más, Pablo describió lo mismo hace casi 2000 años.
“Alabado sea el Dios y Padre de nuestro Señor Jesucristo, Padre misericordioso y Dios de toda consolación, quien nos consuela en todas nuestras tribulaciones para que con el mismo consuelo que de Dios hemos recibido, también nosotros podamos consolar a todos los que sufren.” (2 Co. 1: 3-4).
Dios es fiel. Él nos consuela, consuela a otros a través de nosotros, nos consuela a través de otros. Necesitamos escuchar de otros las historias de Su bondad.
Entonces, nuestra experiencia compartida de dolor se convertirá en una experiencia compartida de alabanza. Alabanza a un Dios que es amoroso, misericordioso, bondadoso, fiel y bueno en medio de una tierra llena de dolor.

por siempre bendeciré tu nombre.
2 Todos los días te bendeciré;
por siempre alabaré tu nombre.
3 Grande es el Señor, y digno de toda alabanza;
su grandeza es insondable.

Be Happy And Do Good (Sé Feliz y Haz el Bien)
Do you ever feel like life is just too complicated?
There are so many things you want to do, so many things you should do, so many things you're trying to learn, so many things that confuse, discourage, or frustrate you...until you just want to go in the closet, close the door, and step into another world, like Narnia.
Believe me, I understand. Sometimes the complexity of life on this earth overwhelms me.
One time when I was feeling that way, I happened to be reading in Ecclesiastes, and God highlighted just the verse I needed.
"I know that there is nothing better for people than to be happy and to do good while they live." -Ecclesiastes 3:12
In His grace, God used this verse to simplify life for me once again. Only two things are mentioned in this verse -
1) Be happy.
2) Do good.
Jesus has spent many years teaching me about being happy in Him. First I had to learn that it was indeed possible to "be" happy, not just to "feel" happy. Time after time, my loving Shepherd has brought me through the pain, disappointment, trials, and busyness to that quiet place with Him. That place where I fix my eyes on His beautiful face, and I can't help but smile. I can't help but be filled with joy in knowing that He loves me! In knowing He is with me. In knowing Him, my amazing Savior!
No matter what life on earth is like, my relationship with Jesus is eternal, praise Him! And yes, that makes it possible for me to "be" happy.
When my heart is truly satisfied in Jesus and happy in Him, He gives me eyes to see past circumstances, opposition, and suffering. He gives me eyes to see others in need. And He gives me strength to do good.
Romans 12:21 says, "Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good."
That's why we are still here on earth, to do good.
There's so much evil in this world. Only God is good. All goodness comes from Him. And He wants to do good things through us.
But we don't need to complicate it. "Doing good" covers a lot of territory. It can be sending a quick note to someone that you were thinking of them. Texting a verse to a friend. Praying for the person God brings to your mind. Picking up your neighbor's trash can when it blows down the street.
Doing good can also be mentoring a teen, hosting a Bible study, or writing a blog. But it's not about measuring up to some standard we or others set. It's about being mindful that every day there are opportunities for us to do good. And remembering that every little act of kindness and goodness makes a difference in the world, overcoming evil with good.
As we keep our hearts happy in Jesus, He will work through us to do the good things He placed us here to do.
I don't know about you, but I often need this reminder in my complicated life. Praise God that He knows how to keep it simple -
Be happy in Jesus.
Do good one day at a time.
Father, thank you for your Word that gives us everything we need for life on this earth. Thank you for this verse that helps simplify things for us once again. May you keep our hearts happy in Jesus, and may you do good through us for your glory! Amen.

¿Alguna vez has sentido que la vida es demasiado complicada?
Hay tantas cosas que quieres hacer, tantas que deberías hacer, tantas que estás tratando de aprender, tantas que te confunden, te desaniman o te frustran… hasta que simplemente quieres meterte en el armario, cerrar la puerta y entrar en otro mundo, como Narnia.
Créeme, entiendo. A veces la complejidad de la vida en la tierra me agobia.
Una vez cuando me estaba sintiendo así, resulta que estaba leyendo en Eclesiastés y Dios resaltó justo el versículo que yo necesitaba.
“Yo sé que nada hay mejor para el hombre que alegrarse y hacer el bien mientras viva.” –Ec. 3:12
En Su gracia, Dios usó este versículo para simplificar la vida para mí una vez más. Solamente dos cosas se mencionan en éste:
1) Ser feliz.
2) Hacer el bien.
Jesús ha pasado muchos años enseñándome sobre ser feliz en Él. Primero tuve que aprender que por supuesto es posible “ser” feliz, no sencillamente “sentirse” feliz. Vez tras vez, mi amante pastor me ha traído a través del dolor, el desánimo, las pruebas y la mucha ocupación a ese lugar tranquilo con Él. Ese lugar donde fijo mis ojos en Su hermoso rostro y no puedo evitar sonreír. No puedo evitar ser llena de gozo sabiendo que ¡Él me ama! Sabiendo que Él está conmigo. Conociéndolo a Él, ¡mi maravilloso Salvador!
Sin importar cómo es la vida en la tierra, mi relación con Jesús es eterna, ¡alabado sea! Y sí, eso hace posible que yo “sea” feliz.
Cuando mi corazón está verdaderamente satisfecho en Jesús y feliz en Él, me da ojos para pasar por alto circunstancias, oposición y sufrimiento; para ver a otros en necesidad. Y me da fortaleza para hacer el bien.
Romanos 12:21 dice: “No te dejes vencer por el mal; al contrario, vence el mal con el bien.”
Para eso es que todavía estamos aquí en la tierra, para hacer el bien.
Hay mucha maldad en este mundo. Sólo Dios es bueno. Toda bondad viene de Él. Y Él quiere hacer cosas buenas a través de nosotros.
Pero no necesitamos complicarlo. “Hacer bien” cubre mucho territorio. Puede ser enviar una nota rápida a alguien en quien estabas pensando. Enviar un mensaje de texto con un versículo a un amigo. Orar por la persona a quien Dios traiga a tu mente. Levantar la caneca de la basura de tu vecino cuando vuela por la calle.
Hacer el bien puede ser también la tutoría a un adolescente, tener un estudio bíblico en casa o escribir un blog. Pero no se trata de alcanzar algunos patrones que nosotros u otros fijamos. Se trata de ser conscientes de que todos los días hay oportunidades para que hagamos el bien. Y recordar que cada pequeño acto de amabilidad y bondad hace diferencia en el mundo, venciendo el mal con el bien.
Mientras mantengamos nuestros corazones alegres en Jesús, Él obrará través de nosotros para hacer las cosas buenas para las que nos puso aquí.
No sé de ti, pero yo con frecuencia necesito este recordatorio en mi complicada vida. Alabo a Dios porque Él sabe cómo mantenerla sencilla –
Sé feliz en Jesús.
Haz bien un día a la vez.
Padre, gracias por tu Palabra que nos da todo lo que necesitamos para la vida en esta tierra. Gracias por este versículo que ayuda a simplificar las cosas para nosotros otra vez. Mantén nuestros corazones felices en Jesús, y ¡haz bien a través de nosotros para tu gloria! Amén

On The Waters (Sobre las Aguas)
Last month I was blessed to attend the Global Media Summit in TX. It was an incredible experience! I loved meeting Christians passionate about using media for the gospel. There was a lot of practical information shared that was so helpful. But the main themes were about staying close to our heavenly Father and about the vital role of prayer. I left the Summit inspired, encouraged and challenged. Yet looking at the path ahead, I feel in need of much greater faith!
One of the songs we sang during the worship time was called "Oceans." It's been around for a while, but this was the perfect timing for me to really receive the message of the song. When God calls us out on the waters, where much more faith is required, all we need is to keep our eyes on Jesus and to rest in His love and grace.
In His kindness, God gave me a visual illustration of this only days after I left TX.
I was at the beach enjoying some fresh ocean air, when I saw something unusual. I don't know what it's called, but a man had a huge kite/sail thing attached to him with a cable of some kind. And he stood on a board (sort of like a snowboard). When the wind caught in the sail, he went skimming over the waves, way out on the water. Then he would change directions and come zipping back in toward the shore. Clearly it wasn't an easy thing to do. It obviously required physical strength, balance, skill, practice and courage. But I could tell the man was having a blast! And it was truly amazing to watch!
God showed me through that a picture of what life can be like with Him. With our feet planted on the Word of God, staying connected to the Father, and the wind of the Spirit lifting us up, we can ride across the waves, no matter how rough they are. And while it's not easy, I believe there is great joy in following Jesus out onto the waters and watching HIM do the impossible in and through our lives!
I believe God is calling me to things SO much bigger than I ever expected or dreamed! I definitely need increased faith to keep stepping out on the waters. Most of all I need to keep my eyes fixed on HIM and my soul resting in His embrace.

Sobre las Aguas
El mes pasado fui bendecida asistiendo a la Cumbre Global de Medios en Texas. ¡Fue una experiencia increíble! Me encanta conocer cristianos que se apasionan por el uso de los medios para compartir el Evangelio. Compartieron mucha información práctica que fue muy útil. Pero los temas principales fueron sobre permanecer cerca a nuestro Padre celestial y sobre el papel vital de la oración. Salí de la Cumbre inspirada, animada y desafiada. Sin embargo, mirando al camino que hay por delante, ¡me siento en necesidad de fe mucho más grande!
Una de las canciones que cantamos durante el tiempo de alabanza se llamaba “Océanos.” Ha estado por ahí por un tiempo, pero este fue el momento perfecto para mí para recibir verdaderamente su mensaje. Cuando Dios nos llama fuera, a las aguas, donde mucha más fe se requiere, todo lo que necesitamos es mantener nuestros ojos en Jesús y descansar en Su amor y gracia.
En Su bondad, Dios me dio una ilustración visual de esto solamente unos días después que salí de Texas.
Estaba en la playa disfrutando del aire fresco del océano, cuando vi algo inusual. No sé cómo se llama, pero un hombre tenía una enorme cometa/vela unida a él por un cable de alguna clase. Y se paró sobre una tabla (algo parecido a una tabla para la nieve). Cuando el viento pegó contra la vela, él se fue deslizándose sobre las olas, lejos sobre el agua. Luego cambiaba la dirección y volvía zigzagueando hacia la orilla. Claramente no era algo fácil de hacer. Obviamente requería fortaleza física, equilibrio, habilidad, práctica y coraje. Pero podía ver que el hombre ¡se estaba divirtiendo grandemente! Y ¡fue verdaderamente increíble verlo!
Dios me mostró a través de ese cuadro cómo puede ser la vida con Él. Con nuestros pies plantados en la Palabra de Dios, permaneciendo conectados con el Padre y con el viento del Espíritu levantándonos, podemos cabalgar sobre las olas, sin importar lo bravas que sean. Y aunque no es fácil, creo que ¡hay gran gozo en seguir a Jesús sobre las aguas y verlo a ÉL hacer lo imposible en y a través de nuestras vidas!
Creo que Dios me está llamando a cosas ¡MUCHO más grandes de lo que nunca esperé o soñé! Definitivamente necesito una fe aumentada para seguir dando un paso fuera, a la aguas. Sobre todo, necesito mantener mis ojos fijos en ÉL y mi alma descansando en SU abrazo.

With our feet planted on the Word of God, staying connected to the Father, and the wind of the Spirit lifting us up, we can ride across the waves, no matter how rough they are. And while it's not easy, I believe there is great joy in following Jesus out onto the waters and watching HIM do the impossible in and through our lives!
I believe God is calling me to things SO much bigger than I ever expected or dreamed! I definitely need increased faith to keep stepping out on the waters. Most of all I need to keep my eyes fixed on HIM and my soul resting in His embrace.

Sobre las Aguas
El mes pasado fui bendecida asistiendo a la Cumbre Global de Medios en Texas. ¡Fue una experiencia increíble! Me encanta conocer cristianos que se apasionan por el uso de los medios para compartir el Evangelio. Compartieron mucha información práctica que fue muy útil. Pero los temas principales fueron sobre permanecer cerca a nuestro Padre celestial y sobre el papel vital de la oración. Salí de la Cumbre inspirada, animada y desafiada. Sin embargo, mirando al camino que hay por delante, ¡me siento en necesidad de fe mucho más grande!
Una de las canciones que cantamos durante el tiempo de alabanza se llamaba “Océanos.” Ha estado por ahí por un tiempo, pero este fue el momento perfecto para mí para recibir verdaderamente su mensaje. Cuando Dios nos llama fuera, a las aguas, donde mucha más fe se requiere, todo lo que necesitamos es mantener nuestros ojos en Jesús y descansar en Su amor y gracia.
En Su bondad, Dios me dio una ilustración visual de esto solamente unos días después que salí de Texas.
Estaba en la playa disfrutando del aire fresco del océano, cuando vi algo inusual. No sé cómo se llama, pero un hombre tenía una enorme cometa/vela unida a él por un cable de alguna clase. Y se paró sobre una tabla (algo parecido a una tabla para la nieve). Cuando el viento pegó contra la vela, él se fue deslizándose sobre las olas, lejos sobre el agua. Luego cambiaba la dirección y volvía zigzagueando hacia la orilla. Claramente no era algo fácil de hacer. Obviamente requería fortaleza física, equilibrio, habilidad, práctica y coraje. Pero podía ver que el hombre ¡se estaba divirtiendo grandemente! Y ¡fue verdaderamente increíble verlo!
Dios me mostró a través de ese cuadro cómo puede ser la vida con Él. Con nuestros pies plantados en la Palabra de Dios, permaneciendo conectados con el Padre y con el viento del Espíritu levantándonos, podemos cabalgar sobre las olas, sin importar lo bravas que sean. Y aunque no es fácil, creo que ¡hay gran gozo en seguir a Jesús sobre las aguas y verlo a ÉL hacer lo imposible en y a través de nuestras vidas!
Creo que Dios me está llamando a cosas ¡MUCHO más grandes de lo que nunca esperé o soñé! Definitivamente necesito una fe aumentada para seguir dando un paso fuera, a la aguas. Sobre todo, necesito mantener mis ojos fijos en ÉL y mi alma descansando en SU abrazo.

People Say The Funniest Things (La gente dice cosas muy chistosas)
This week I thought I'd share something more humorous and light-hearted. Enjoy! =)
I know I don't look my age. I've always appeared much younger than I am. When I was in college a little boy I was babysitting couldn't believe I was 21. After a moment of shocked silence, he said to me, "That means when you're 84 you'll only look like you're 74!" Something to look forward to for sure. =)
Then there was the time I was flying home for college break and sitting in the exit row. The flight attendant stopped and asked me how old I was. (You have to be at least 14 to sit in an exit row.) I was slightly offended to be mistaken for a teenager, but in hindsight, she was probably just doing her job.
As my health has improved, I've been out and about more. While in some ways it feels like I lost the last 10 years of my life, I have still aged. But most people assume I'm in my early 20's. Like the older man at McDonalds who asked if I was on spring break from college. And the clerk in the grocery store who told me, "You look too young to have gray hair."
Sometimes looking younger comes in handy. Like if I want to order off the kids menu at a restaurant. Or if I'm lost and have to ask for directions. Or if I'm totally confused about something and ask the person to repeat it five times until I finally understand. I figure they just think I'm a silly college student. =)
I think the funniest one lately was when I went to an adult Bible study. The age range of the adults was mid-fifties to early 90's. Someone asked who put me in with the "old folks." I tried to explain that I'm not as young as I look, I'm actually in my 30's. One of the ladies looked at me and said, "Honey, I've got clothes older than you!" =)
It's funny how different people have different perspectives of what they see. To the little boy, it was unthinkable that I was as old as 21. To the elderly lady, mid-30's meant not being around as long as some of her wardrobe. Same me, but different perspectives.
I think if we're not careful, we can let others' perspectives of us distort how we see ourselves. In reality the only one who see us perfectly and rightly is God Himself. He sees everything - all our flaws, weaknesses, frailties, talents, abilities, gifts, needs, desires.... He knows us better than we know ourselves. His perspective is the one we need.
I'm learning that the more I see myself the way God sees me, the more truly "me" I become.
So it doesn't really matter if I look like I'm 21, or if I have gray hair in my 30's, or if I can't sit in an exit row. =) What matters is who God says I am, and living my life according to what HE sees in me.
"For you created my inmost being; you knit me together in my mother's womb. I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know that full well." -Psalm 139:13-14
"Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; the old has passed away, behold the new has come." -2 Corinthians 5:17

For he chose us in him before the creation of the world to be holy and blameless in his sight. In love he predestined us for adoption to sonship through Jesus Christ, in accordance with his pleasure and will—" -Ephesians 1:3-5

Esta semana pensé en compartir algo más jocoso y alegre. ¡Disfrútalo!=)
Sé que no parezco tener la edad que tengo. Siempre he parecido mucho más joven de lo que soy. Cuando estaba en la universidad un pequeñito al que estaba cuidando no podía creer que yo tenía 21. Después de un momento de silencio conmocionado me dijo: “¡Eso significa que cuando tengas 84 parecerá que solamente tienes 74!” Algo que esperar, de seguro. =)
Luego vino el tiempo cuando estaba volando a casa por las vacaciones de la universidad y sentada en la fila de la salida de emergencia. La auxiliar de vuelo se detuvo y me preguntó qué edad tenía. (Tienes que tener por lo menos catorce años para sentarte en la fila de la salida de emergencia.) Me sentí ligeramente ofendida porque me confundieron con una adolescente, pero retrospectivamente, lo más probable es que ella estaba sencillamente haciendo su trabajo.
A medida que mi salud ha ido mejorando, he estado fuera de casa con más frecuencia. Aunque de alguna manera se siente como si hubiese perdido los últimos diez años de mi vida, de todas maneras han pasado los años. Pero la mayoría de la gente asume que tengo apenas un poco más de veinte. Como el señor de edad que en McDonalds me preguntó si estaba en las vacaciones de verano de la universidad. Y el dependiente de la tienda de víveres que me dijo: “Pareces muy joven para tener canas.”
A veces parecer más joven es de beneficio. Por ejemplo, si quiero ordenar el menú para niños en un restaurante. O si estoy perdida y quiero pedir indicaciones. O, si estoy totalmente confundida acerca de algo y pido a la persona que lo repita cinco veces hasta que finalmente entiendo. Me imagino que sencillamente piensan que soy una tonta estudiante de universidad. =)
Creo que la más chistosa últimamente fue cuando fui a un estudio bíblico para adultos. Las edades del grupo estaban entre los 50 y algo y los 90. Alguien preguntó quién me había puesto entre los “viejos.” Traté de explicar que no soy tan joven como parezco, en realidad estoy en mis treintas. Una de las damas me miró y dijo: “¡Querida, tengo vestidos que son más viejos que tú!” =)
Es chistoso cómo diferentes personas tienen diversas perspectivas de lo que ven. Para el pequeño niño, era impensable que yo tuviera tantos años, 21. Para la señora mayor medios 30 significó no haber estado por los alrededores tanto tiempo como su guardarropa. La misma yo, distintas perspectivas.
Pienso que si no tenemos cuidado, podemos permitir que las perspectivas de otros distorsionen cómo nos vemos a nosotros mismos. En realidad el único que nos ve perfecta y correctamente es Dios mismo. Él ve todo – todas nuestras fallas, debilidades, talentos, capacidades, necesidades, dones, deseos… Él nos conoce mejor de lo que nosotros mismos nos conocemos. Su perspectiva es la que necesitamos.
Estoy aprendiendo que mientras más me vea a mí misma como me ve Dios, en más verdaderamente “yo” me convierto.
Así que en realidad no importa si parece que tengo 20, tengo el cabello cano a mis 30 o si no me puedo sentar en la fila de la salida de emergencia. =) Lo que importa es quien dice Dios que soy y que viva mi vida de acuerdo con lo que Él ve en mí.
Tú creaste mis entrañas; me formaste en el vientre de mi madre. ¡Te alabo porque soy una creación admirable! ¡Tus obras son maravillosas, y esto lo sé muy bien! –Salmo 139:13-14
Por lo tanto, si alguno está en Cristo, es una nueva creación. ¡Lo viejo ha pasado, ha llegado ya lo nuevo! -2 Co. 5:17
